Ploutre Added a reply to Shimano Drops New 2.2mm Thick Rotors in 200/220mm Sizes - Thoughts?
6/17/2026 1:04am It goes in the right direction for thickness, but definitely not for quality.. Stamped rotor for that price? Nah. In the end, once the rotor is bedded in, it probably provides 99% of the power of a laser cut rotor, but it takes longer to bed in, looks horrible and worst of all, cheap. Aliexpress rotors that cost 10% look...

6/12/2026 4:10am Zero info on their website about these brakes ... other than the fact they are 1000€, made in Germany and supposedly powerful. Couldn't even find the pad type!

5/26/2026 10:59pm Small feedback on the TRP RS05E rotors in 220mm after a season, the rear is dead (1.8mm), front still has some life (1.95mm), and most importantly the braking surface is still pretty smooth. They're a bit noisy compared to more "full" versions of rotors (even the RS01), but held up good! I guess I'll add a pair of rotors to...

5/2/2026 10:34pm I sincerely hope for Shimano the 8spd cassette has 12spd spacing and the same width as existing 7spd cassettes, otherwise it'll be dead on arrival ... Unless they make it compatible only with their hubs with a new proprietary hub format, until other brands maange to get their hands on the freewheel format (remember microspline? I do) They now have...

4/28/2026 1:35pm Probably unrelated, as on the pictures it's a 200/203mm, but some teams on 100% Shimano programs had to run the cheap ebike 223mm rotor Shimano offered to get a bit more power out of their aging lineup. Other teams just run Galfer rotors ...

4/21/2026 12:25pm I had the opportunity to test the Beringer Br4ve, and while the caliper was impressive (very smooth pistons, no noise from the weird pad retention and lack of spring, big 4x18 caliper), the overall power was really lacking. I'd put them slightly better than Cura4 (same caliper size, almost the same master cylinder piston size, I think it was a...

2/28/2026 11:41am EZMTB pro bleed kit for me, with the exception that they haven't made a Maven bleeding edge version yet (at least last I checked, they might have updated it since) so you'd have to get it from somewhere else.

12/2/2025 9:26am If you really need a short throw on the Maven Base, you can slightly overpressure the circuit by just pushing a bit of oil from the caliper and closing the circuit. The Bleeding Edge is really good for that. That won't last, as pad wear would give you over time the same throw as before, but if you're very picky...

11/11/2025 8:55am I believe it's April (or somewhere around April '26) for the launch of a whole range of SRAM products, these included. I wonder if they'll make those available on their own to install on current gen of Mavens

11/5/2025 9:29am The S01E is laser cut, and works fine, although for bigger pads like V4, the bottom of the pad is slightly hanging under the braking surface. The S05 is better in that regard. I would stay away from the Shark 223mm, had a pair for a season and the problem is that the tiny holes "line up", as in they're...

10/2/2025 11:26pm That's the Sinter Smart Bedding Machine, costs a fortune, but it must be so useful for them considering how often they change rotors/pads

10/1/2025 10:50pm I kinda want to do that with Trickstuff or Radic master cylinders now ...

9/7/2025 7:37am I'm running the 612 calipers on the DH bike, and the only thing I don't like with them is the bleed port. It is located within the banjo bolt, and it makes it harder to properly bleed the air out of the caliper. I changed the seals on my rear brake after like 2 or 3 seasons (and that is...

7/7/2025 10:20pm Aluminium pistons? That's a surprise, I thought manufacturers wanted to isolate the heat from the rotor from the fluid in the caliper (ceramic, steel, phenolic, ...), but with aluminium, that would be kind of the opposite? But we learn it's a 9mm MC piston and 4x18mm caliper, which should be on the higher end of power (just accounting the hydraulic...

6/18/2025 8:47am As long as it works in the rider's head... Sometimes, it's just to go with the flow, if the rider feels it makes a difference, even though physics and data might prove otherwise, the teams/mechanics will roll with it. I'm not surprised mental coaches are so important now at their level, if you have an edge "in your head", chances...

5/17/2025 11:00am Could be the original Kashima coating you could find on Kowa forks a long time ago for example, which had a much darker tint than the Fox one.

5/2/2025 12:04am My local shop asked the Galfer rep last summer, and he was "yea we're still making them for Hope". Probably not up to the latest developments maybe? Definitely different compound than the Galfer Pros, and while the Pros are good, they don't handle the heat that well. I'm a pretty heavy rider and tend to run the brakes HOT, and...

5/1/2025 12:10am I'm more and more confident the Hope Racing pads are made in the same factory as the Trickstuff Power pads. They look the same new and used, make the same power, wear is even (aka super quick), same noise on the pads ... As they are 7 or 8€ cheaper, they're now my goto pads. Annoying they had to paint...
