I meant all the Aussie pros using dampers, there are a couple other prototypes on the world circuit that are made by other companies. I've tested one, it definitely does what it says on the tin. Creates resistance to turn the bars and 0 resistance when centering the bars, to give a feeling of stability and to resist unwanted deflection of rocks etc. No wether I'd pay $800+ for it? Idk. Not at this stage, but my total bike value is probably $3k, so I'm not exactly the target market.

This statement has been made confusing by SRAM marketing, and isn't true: " A T-Type transmission or something similar will shift better than mechanical because it knows the precise time to shift to prevent damage and premature wear. " There is no timing, there's no sensor that knows the position of the cassette. The magic is in the cassette itself, which is designed more like an OG front dual chainring with ramps that only move the chain up when it hits those designed shift points. There are also narrow-wide elements on the largest cogs to retain the chain, presumably for...

I'm not anti innovation, but I am pro choice. Having choices removed is a step backwards IMO.

Big brands know you were going to buy a Raaw or a Forbidden. You think they’re trying to compete with those brands? Heck no. They’re happy to let them get in on the niche end of the game. Big brands don’t have time to chase trends. They make big fancy bikes for people with teslas and rivianz. Dakine Fanny and pit vipers and discretionary income. A couple kids on the way that the big brands want to get into the Fam asap. At least half the people at the big brands don’t even ride. They come from tech and vacuum...

Can I just interject... It scarcely matters how good the Stumpjumper's new suspension is when they want AU$8900 for a Rhythm fork, a Performance shock and whatever we're calling that OEM Transmission (NX?) Righto please continue dunking on the marketing.

The fact they spec their most aggressive model with the Ohlins coil and 38 tells you it will ride just fine with a properly tuned shock with enough damping.

It's fascinating to guess at what Spesh was thinking with the Stumpjumper. I think the key is to remember that, at the end of the day, bike companies (especially large bike companies) exist to make money, not make bikes for the people that hang out on bike forums. Riffing off the Toyota Tacoma/4runner analogy and making up numbers, 95% of those vehicles are pavement princesses. People buy them and use them for pavement and highway driving, but they don't actually perform very well at that. Similarly, 95% of the people that buy a carbon Stumpjumper never ride it anywhere close...

In college I rode hammered grips and poort bled brakes because I was poor and felt it was cool to "suffer" and just lazy. After growing up, I've come to realize that details matter. Lots of small things add up. Minor adjustments to lever position, grips, bar backsweep & roll, well bled brakes, a fork that has at some point in its life actually been serviced, proper tire pressure, etc all add up to a huge difference. As much as I love my Oneup bars and revgrips, there is no magic bullet or single solution to most things in life...

Nothing that "we" ride is basic in their portfolio, think $400 FX with rim brakes. It's an upgrade to discs, and they might still be cable. They sell the hell out of those things.

Some companies realized the boom was a boom and didn't triple their staff, open boutique stores, and expand their lineup to infinity. They also aren't sponsoring many slopestyle riders.
agree. No one is entitled to a living because they like what they do, A living comes from the value the task brings to the world. Wer all love ridng bikes, we are all amazed when the best in the world show case their skills but realistically watching someone do tricks of a jump brings nothing more than a thrill. There is no real value to this other than entertainment. The number of riders in the riding population who have talent enough to even attempt some of these things is extremely low. Slope style brings very little value overall. These...
