If 2 months before the contest word had gotten out that the original invited riders weren't going to show up, there would have 100 other guys who would been stepping on their own d__ks to get a spot in that contest..

I didn't say that to discredit the top guys.. They are pulling some crazy tricks. But, to a majority of the spectators, it wouldn't make much of a difference. Not everyone follows slope style that closely. For most people, a 360 or flip variation carries a pretty big wow factor..

With all the sales going on (Specialized Status frame + shock for $750, for instance), I've been worried that bikes are getting too affordable. When I show up at the Corner Canyon trailhead to ride IMBA blues with the lads, I need my long travel enduro bike to be more expensive than the other mid-level engineers and managers. I hope this ochain uses electronics and accelerometers to "know" when you're pedaling or not, so it can lock out the spider while pedaling and allow the float only during coasting.

Aren't the riders just barking up the wrong tree? I get the safety part of it, but it isn't on Crankworx to pay the riders is it? Ask your sponsor. They don't want to pay you more? Well, time to realize your worth, whats happening in the industry, and go do something else to finance your hobby.

They can get a regular job to fund their slopestyle hobby until it pays off for them. You don't have to be broke and living in a van if you don't want to. A friend of mine raced world cup DH and was an electrician in the off season. The dude had tons of money to fund his endeavors on top of what sponsors were supporting him with. It's not unreasonable to think any of the slopestyle guys can be doing the same. With that financial freedom, they can pick and choose which events they want to ride...and not show...

Man...the appearance fee, wanting food & accommodation...those are benefits not even employees can get. Sorry, but this reads as Gen Z bullshit. Don't fly to the OTHER END OF THE WORLD to spin your bike in the air for a few if you don't have your own money, sponsors, contracts, insurance & extradition in order. These guys are talking like they are a single entity that supplies Crankworx with a set pool of "performers" for a "show". If that's the case, they should have NAMED a FLAT appearance fee for their collective/entity/company (insert name of freeriders here). You want to...

Is it though? If they are upfront that they provide a platform for people to compete and advance their careers and nothing else, are they obligated to front the money for people to come?

For the same design and same loading, stress is the same for the two materials assuming no deflection. Modulus of elasticity is the same for all intents and purposes so when you consider deflection as well it’s still pretty much the same. S-N curve is the quick and easy way to visualize fatigue. For the same stress, 7075 can handle significantly more cycles. This graph is something I found really quick so no idea how accurate it is, but conveys the point. Traced lines for stress that would cause failure in 10^4 cycles in 6061. Would require about 10^5.6 cycles...

Bernard Kerr just snapped the front off of his prototype Pivot at Crankworks. I couldn't see if it was the lug or the carbon.

There's the problem of different oils... Unless we just all agree on using DOT, but don't see that happening... What I would like to see is removable hardware on the hoses so I don't have to cut the hose or throw away the olive every time the hose needs to come out of the bike. Or, you know, not have internal routing...

Just got back from a day at Dyfi. This is the production-ready model, two were being tested by journalists in preparation for the official launch on the 12th. In person it’s absolutely striking and looks like nothing else out there. If the frame only price is reasonable then I’ve never been more tempted by a bike. (If anyone from Atherton bikes wants me to remove the photo I’m happy to, but as it’s been seen by upwards of 100 people today I’m sure it’s fine).

i fully understand the hate that Maxxis gets from consumers. However, from factory teams like specialized and trek using sharpies, to their tread patterns being completely copied, they are clearly the benchmark. edit: i expect to get jumped here, and i accept that. *closes eyes and opens arms*
