9/26/2024 1:53pm The Sidekick uses a 45T ratchet ring that translates to an 8 degree "traditional" engagement. The degrees on the pusher are reflective of just the pusher movement itself. So, if we are talking the total possible degrees: the 12 degree Pusher setting would be 12-20 degrees, the 15 degree Pusher setting would be 15-23 degrees and the 18 degree pusher setting would be 18-26 degrees. It's important to remember that those are the numbers on paper, but in actual use there are constant suspension inputs, freewheeling that is resetting the pusher back to zero, and a few other intricacies. We...

9/23/2024 12:10pm There should be a law that once a product is EOL and is not supported anymore, the specs for the spare parts should be freely published. Including, for example, the dimensions of frame parts to be able to either weld up cracked parts to correct dimensions or have someone be able to recreate things. Right to repair really can't come quickly enough.

9/18/2024 12:16pm All of the parts in the first picture cost me 108$+30$shipping+local tax. Your mileage may vary. I was aware of this and with the Lewis pushrods the system is closed. The brakes have little to no pull after heating up. This isn't a big deal since in Finland there's not that much elevation to cause any real problems. It might also be due to me using the Trickstuff free stroke spacer instead of the Lewis one which is much thinner. The free stroke spacer sits between the circlip and the end of the pushrod setting the "resting" point of the...

9/18/2024 12:15pm One thing to pay attention with those levers, the free stroke adjustment is just "push the piston in" while the lever stays in its stock position. So make sure the circuit isn't closed from the reservoir when the lever is at its resting position, otherwise it'll be problematic when the brakes heat up and the liquid slightly expands, or just when pads wear out and there's not enough oil in the circuit to compensate. If when the adjuster is all the way in, you can still bleed the brakes fine, all good. Which is why on the Hope brakes you...

9/16/2024 8:57am I believe they machine the front triangle in two halves and bond them together. The bolts are for holding the halves together while bonding and stay in after it's fully cured

9/12/2024 8:10am I'm struggling to work out who is less wrong here - but yes a bike absolutely has anti squat (and anti rise) without a chain on it. The bike is being pushed by the swingarm which can pivot, so the response of the rider weight means it will likely try to tip one way or the other. The chain is just a second torque being added to the equation which can offset that moment. I think this needs its own thread

9/5/2024 6:45am Yeah right! That said Hope actually did this. They calculated an amortized cost for the carbon bike including development time etc but then after a while they realized they had learnt so much from the project that could be applied to other carbon products and help to spread the sunk costs. So they dropped the price by £1000 (iirc) and gave a rebate to all the original customers! This is very Hope-like. In the Uk there was/is a salary sacrifice scheme you can use for buying a bike and save 25-30%. Hope signed up but it was a lot of...

9/3/2024 9:10am Not sure why you're getting downvoted... you can probably jury rig a dynamo/USB bank combo to charge your AXS batteries on the road, and I bet bikepackers are doing just that, but a SRAM native, plug and play, sleek and integrated, trail rider friendly option seems like a no brainer.... but it'd have wires, which is off brand. I think that and the limited market for range anxiety paranoid type folks is your biggest obstacle to go to market. Everyone else can just carry an extra battery. Jockey wheel charging is far fetched... you don't need a ton of watts...
