With the arrival of 2025 and big changes underway, here's a quick look back at how team and rider numbers have evolved over the years. The number of teams peaked in 2023 with a total of 184 (128 standard, 56 elite). 2024 saw the second highest number of teams on record with 163 (112 standard, 51 elite). The bike bubble bursting was already beginning to have an effect going into the 2024 season, even with the upcoming Olympic games. I have created a spreadsheet with rumors on it in an attempt to calculate the points that each team will have going into 2025 and which teams will be world series teams (since this year the rankings are based on rider points). I think if they had the best current riders who no longer compete at Rampage as judges like Brett Rheeder, Andreu Lacondeguy, Antoine Bizet, Graham Agassiz and Vincent Tupin, the judging would be a lot better and more consistent.

Angel Suarez has fantastic technique and can hold some pretty insane pace. I think he's been on some higher-profile teams because people who know bike racing can see that this guy has potential. That said, his career in the elite field is entering its 10th season, and it hasn't been a smooth decade. Out of 59 Elite World Cup / World Champ registrations he has missed 19 to DNS/F/Q. First top-ten in his 4th season, and his first podium in his 8th season. Good riders to compare him to would be Mark Wallace and Benoit Coulanges, who each entered Elite...
