9/12/2024 10:29am No, I am correct in my analysis. You need to look at the rear triangle as an isolated system in its own right, it can absolutely produce anti-squat in response to acceleration-inducing forces being applied to the rear axle, without needing to be above the line between the rear axle and the CoG. A high-pivot bike with an idler can certainly produce anti-squat even with the idler placed directly on the main pivot.

9/6/2024 5:18pm Mass confusion for the maxxis fanboys. Theyre wondering if they should meltdown at the mention of conti and schwalbe being better tires or start beating the drum that the new maxxis will be the best evvvarr. Rumour has it they may even have straight casings, no signature wobble

9/5/2024 12:33am It seems like the new hot thing is to want steeper head tube angles. It seems like a counter culture thing but who knows lol. I guess I’m still living in the (recent) past. In highschool i rode a 2001 trek fuel that felt like it was actively trying to OTB and kill me. I still really like really slack trail bikes. Give me a 150mm bike with a 63° head tube angle and I’ll be happier than a pig in shit.

8/15/2024 10:12pm So, it sounds like the consensus view is that the Formula CTS valves (at least the ones pictured in the teardown article of the Selva fork) ARE a simple orifice damper that uses different-sized holes and different hole configurations in the changeable donut-shaped piston as the source of damping. The single shim is likely only there are a one-way check valve to prevent flow through the piston in the opposite direction, and the shim is NOT there as a way to generate damping force in the primary flow direction. So it's a dead simple mechanical system. Bigger holes = less...

8/15/2024 10:05pm This is why I don't talk to people at trailheads... they would think I'm part of some strange cult. Interestingly, as far as the response with the most consistent change in damping as felt at the wheel over travel, a slightly concave leverage curve is closer to a line. This is because damping as felt at the wheel is inversely proportional to leverage ratio squared. Example below

7/27/2024 8:27pm I’m getting the vibe this is a word salad thing for everybody. Maybe try this: The chain “knows” when to shift because of how the system/cassette is designed. Or even better: the chain “knows” what to do after the derailleur instructs it to move. Almost sounds like I’m describing a mechanical drivetrain…

7/4/2024 12:44am Playing devils advocate here but isnt this problem solved with 1. progressive leverage curves 2. Shock ramp-up via volume spacers 3. HBO damping circuits 4. The severity of a harsh bottom out is way to exaggerated I'm not saying the stumpy is a bad bike, but "solving" bottom outs really isn't that important IMO.

7/2/2024 7:08am The first word that comes to mind is "underwhelming", especially for all the hype leading up to this launch. This is pretty standard trail bike geo, minus the fact that it stil has a sub 77 degree seat angle and the rear center could be considered short for a bike in 2024/25. That said, it's refreshing to see balanced reach with tall stack on a bike in this travel category but that's still nothing earth shattering considering other manufacturers are also starting to do this. My initial opinion is that they're leaning on the proprietary shock alone to set this bike...

6/25/2024 12:07pm As a former shop mechanic who regularly had to deal with "I tried to fix it myself" clusterfucks, I think you're underestimating how many people overestimate their mechanical competency.

6/25/2024 12:07pm At least it doesn't have the threaded bearing seat/drive ring face found in the 240 EXP hub. Removing that for bearing service was without question the highest torque event I've ever encountered in all my years of wrenching.
