Hearing that the sizing chart recommended a size too large for 4 out of 5 bikes is worth the watch alone. Hearing that there were no complaints of imbalance from short chainstays - even on the mega long Canyon - in fact, to the contrary, they made turning more whippy and manuals and pops easier, was worth the listen also. Agreed most modern bikes have too low a stack in big sizes - buy a riser bar. I agree with BBM above. Pedals are like helmets for me, "lightest" being more of a red flag than a selling point. If super light pedals tickle your fancy that these might be the ticket, but I pretty regularly (and accidentally) do horrible things to my pedals on rocks and roots. Survivability is pretty high on my priority list, like a helmet.

This is a way better, more nuanced take than "who rides flat pedals and cares about weight?" To add some missing nuance to my own comment, I think there are plenty of trail riders on flat pedals who do care about weight, and pedals are a pretty good place to feel a difference. If it's compromising safety then I'm not on board.

If there's a pie that represents my mtb ownership experience, maintenance convenience and costs are a small piece, sense of performance advantage afforded by new tech or FOMO from not yet having a new tech is even smaller, the whole conspicuous consumption thing doesn't add or subtract too much (careful use of social media, changing the subject like saying "Hey how's your day going?" when someone in the real world says "nice bike"). The biggest pieces of the mtb experience pie are access to good trails, access to close trails, and other riders. When I'm riding, my bike is good...

I've been watching pits bits from Les gets and I noticed something interesting, Scott team is running Shimano drivetrains and as expected they use saint cranks (real ones not like Laurie lol) but they are also on ochain, so it seems to me they either bodged it somehow (and I find that very hard to believe that they would remove the spider and we're able to somehow reliably reattach suitable mounting interface back on the crank arm) or possibly new saint cranks will be the same as previous generation just with dm chainring. I lean toward these numbers likely reflecting new model sales with a time delay and demographic factors. I would be more interested to hear which models had the highest resale value as a percentage of MSRP, and the closely linked question of which ones tended to sell fastest. I expect that info is much too valuable to share.
