iceman2058 Liked a product review Absolute Showstopper: Hope Tech 4 E4 MTB Brake Review

We’re big fans of all things Hope here at Vital, after years of positive experiences with many of their products. The CNC wizards from Barnoldswick, England have a habit of taking their time with product development, and they’ve been in no rush to update their excellent Tech 3 brakes which have been garnering great reviews since their introduction in 2013. Still, they knew they wanted to make some improvements and 2022 saw them introduce the inconspicuously named Tech 4. Hope sought to provide a lighter lever feel and increase the braking power, and without getting ahead of ourselves, we can...

8/15/2022 11:59pm Hi all, I love the Vital Raw World Cup videos, but I've always been mildly annoyed that the rider names aren't on the screen, and since the plate numbers change every race I'm always somewhat puzzled by who exactly is doing what. But like I said, I really like the videos and don't feel it's my place to ask for anything extra. So I threw together a quick website that just shows all the rider plate numbers, and when you press/click on the plate number, the rider name comes up. It's optimized for mobile and I just threw it together...

8/15/2022 9:54am They have a few random parts still on clearance. I just picked up a 50mm stem, a chainring and a t-shirt for $65. It was a bit of a nostalgia buy. Worth poking around the site, especially if you have an older bike.

7/10/2022 11:04am So, admittedly it may be more theoretical than tangible, but you know how the damper and spring sides always resist compression differently. A longer axle creates a longer lever between the two and more potential for binding. Think I heard this idea in a Chris Porter interview.

6/17/2022 4:00pm Yeah, that math does not check out. >$40k plus interest rates? It will be YEARS before you come out ahead on just sticking with your ICE vehicle that you already own.

6/12/2022 11:27pm Yeah it's still a custom tool even for two piece calipers. Conveniently it's an angle that taper mills exist in so it's just a matter of getting most of the upper portion of the flutes ground off so that it can undercut. With a single piece caliper it would have to be a ground down dovetail or something entirely custom. Both of those are definitely trickier to source, but not impossible. Decreasing MC size gives you higher brake line pressures. Code levers hit 3000 psi easily as is. I would be hesitant to increase that further considering there's another upside...

6/12/2022 11:24pm Re machining calipers, - piston seal groove geometry is interesting. They are not square. About a 7deg taper on the outer surface. The top edge usually has a shallow angle chamfer to help control how the seal flexes outward. On a single piece caliper you'd need two different tools to cut the grooves. One for each side. Not the end of the world, but more custom tools. Custom ground stuff is a pain. - calipers aren't very wide so regardless of whether it's single piece or two pieces the length of tools isn't an issue. Except for the drills... -...
