6/16/2025 10:18am Sorry, but I've never tested the Rekon. Looks like a great rear trail tire. If you care about max traction, well buy the max traction tires. But if you are on a trail bike and want the max overall speed, there is a lot to be gained by going with 'just enough traction' tires. It also can make you feel like quite the hero at times, sliding around, gaining speed everywhere.

6/16/2025 10:17am Rekon is excellent on hardpack but once you have a bit of loose stuff on top, the braking performance suffers a lot. Also the Maxterra side knobs do not last very long due to deep siping and soft rubber. I started tearing the side knobs off after maybe 12-14 rides. Dual compound is more drifty but much longer lasting. I've found Forekaster rear to be a good alternative for loose over hard conditions and lasts longer while being just as fast rolling.

6/13/2025 6:19pm I went through all of the Semi-slicks and rarely did the lack of braking traction bother me but the lack of climbing traction always caught me out. But I had 3 issues with them: 1) They flat easy right in the center tread 2) They are really slow when leaned over and it's very noticeable. If you are doing a trail ride where you lean a lot in fast sweepers it feels like you are dragging the brakes in the turns, you give up a lot of speed. 3) For AM riding I found the Wicked Will in the back...

6/13/2025 6:19pm Have you ridden a Rekon and if so how do the two compare?

6/13/2025 9:20am Good feedback everyone. I do agree that DD's feel nice, but the sidewall support is more or less the same as EXO+. I'm relieved to find out I'm not crazy. I'm going to continue trying out the DD's with inserts for my ebike, and see if I can get through the year on the reserve AL/HD hoop that I have on it without murdering it. I typically murder 1 ex511/reserve AL-HD per year, so that wouldn't be pretty standard. I think it's time to bite the bullet and just go to DH casing rear tires for my enduro bike and...

5/19/2025 8:21pm Suns' succinctly summarizing the dilemma of the modern trail bike, especially at high altitude: tough to keep a bike fast and light and have great front traction. He is a true tire nerd and a wealth of tire info. For years I have been on a quest for this holy grail of fast, light, and big hook up! In the last few months I've ridden on the front the DHF exo+ 2.5 3c Maxxterra (my personal fav for years), the Tioga Edge 22, and now the Albert radial in soft. I consider the Assguy the benchmark for outright cornering and...

5/17/2025 12:24pm If you had Code RSC I'd recommend using the levers with Dominion A4 calipers but with Code R unfortunately you will have to replace the whole brake system to get worthwhile improvements for your money. Code RSC levers will improve performance but for the cost and work involved wouldn't recommend that with so many great options out there. I've heard nothing but bad experiences with Code Rs from other everyday riders and from enduro racers that have used them because their bike came with them stock.

5/9/2025 10:24am Is the HR3 gonna be a bit too square if I put it on a 35mm rim?

5/3/2025 6:48pm Don't you think this is more a function of compound instead of tread pattern? In my experience harder compound tires roll so much faster (on a smooth trail) than a softer compound of the same casing and tread pattern. Everything changes if we're talking about rolling speed on chunky, rough, or janky terrain. This is why I've gravitated toward a full-knob center tread rear tire with a harder compound DH casing for my do-everything bike.

4/14/2025 7:29am Since you are mixing brands already, try the new Maxxis High Roller 3. I had a few rides on it and it is exactly what you describe. Planted on hardpack, lightweight (27.5x2.4 - 1100g for exo+), excellent in loose. I think it will go really well with a Kryptotal Re.

4/14/2025 7:21am Albert isn't great for soft conditions. Much better suited for hard packed and loose over hard packed.

4/14/2025 7:20am overthinking, knobs on the Albert are taller than the ones on the assegai, all of them, but, it's pretty packed so in the softest dirt/mud it can pack, mary is the one you want for softer terrain, Tacky would be sweet but it's not a thing yet

4/13/2025 10:17pm I would agree the super trail casing feels noticeably stiffer than exo and can probably benefit from a slightly lower pressure if all else is equal. I don't love the orange soft compound as a front tire but am fine with it on the back wheel.

4/13/2025 8:37pm Current setup: front - Hillbilly grid trail t9 27.5; Rear - Kryptotal Re enduro soft 26" This has been a very good pairing, but I'm contemplating changing the front for something more planted on hardpack this spring. I still want it to work as best as possible in the loose. The Schwalbe Albert has my attention at the moment, because...
cheapondirt Added a comment about feature Great Minds Think Alike: Ratio Components Flux Cap vs. MRP Noken Review
4/6/2025 2:50pm Following up on this: I've since installed a Noken, went for a ride, got my fork serviced and then went for another ride. The Noken really is exactly like removing an extra token. A solidly tangible improvement to the spring curve (for me). It did get rid of the wallow like I was hoping. The fork service (lowers and air spring) improved sensitivity, as you'd expect. The tech noted there was "an abundance" of grease in the air spring. I'd rate this less noticeable than the addition of the Noken, but still worth doing. I recommend the Noken (or Flux)...

3/22/2025 8:49am My experience has been that Hayes rotors howl at a lower pitch than some, but just as loudly (when wet with metallic pads).
