6/14/2024 3:35pm The answer is torque. With the arms pointing towards the direction path, the brake track is expanded outward, putting the brake track in tension and consistent with the pads. Reverse it causes the opposite. Obviously not a huge deal at normal low temps as anyone who's done an abubaca can attest, but once the material heats up to upper limits the story changes.

6/14/2024 1:46pm This has to have been discussed somewhere sometime, but Faahkeet's backwards rotor made me wonder. Why are rotor arms the way that they are? Seems like the intuitive direction would be the other way around.

6/13/2024 10:35pm Ironically, in a blind test done by GMBN the reviewer found the aluminium bar to be more comfortable than the carbon one, and it was the advertised Race Face ERA bar! Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX92u-uzLfo I'll stick with my Aluminium 31,8 bar since I prioritize comfort.

6/11/2024 6:01pm I just fitted up the calipers to the existing banjo and bolt. I could see the oring pulsing a bit when squeezing the lever but no leaks. I did order a set of Hayes compatible banjos and bolts just in case, will install it on the rear first when I replace that line - the outer sheath peeled a way in a spot from a shuttling incident so a very small show leak from that. The banjo and bolt were easy to get. The rear brake also needed a new post mount due to its size so picked one up...

6/10/2024 11:29am For me, it was just a cheap power upgrade. I paid like 50 bucks on marketplace for my calipers. Very much a poor man's Cascade setup.

5/26/2024 12:31am Recently bought some Dominions and have a theory about all the excessive lever throw/dodgy bleeds that some people experience. It seems all the non-oem bleed kits come with SRAM fittings i.e. an m5x0.8 threaded fitting with an elastomers on the end. When bleeding my dominions the first time, I tried fittings like this but they leaked fluid under pressure and pulled lots of air in under vacuum. The reason for this is there's no spotface on the bleed port for the o ring to actually seal against so it just extrudes itself off of the lip if you thread the...

5/26/2024 12:30am I've tried power+ and galfer green. It's been some time now and I didn't use them back-to-back, but there were clear differences. Power+ seemed like singularly focussed, dry condition, race pads. I made the mistake of installing them one January and aside from hardly working when wet, they lasted something like 10 hours. You might get more life out of...

5/10/2024 11:37am I'll pre-empt the inevitable butthurt about the below by saying that all of these options are good. They are all powerful, all reasonably easy enough to work on, and all (mostly) consistent. I mainly say that because people adore Saints and I found them to be the weaker in almost every category compared to others, but still good. I'd also caveat that "power" is somewhat misunderstood IMO. Most people don't have the means to measure overall, total available power, rather they base it on how the brakes feel. A brake like the Maximas may have a ton of overall power...

5/7/2024 8:30pm I'm not persuaded that lockouts make as big a difference as many think. Tire choice is far more influential. Of course the top riders will be on the top technology by their sponsors. But I just think the correlation is the other way around- 4 of the top 5 riders were on electronic suspension because they are the top riders, its not making them meaningfully faster.

4/26/2024 8:44pm Any further doubt, just pull your brake lever and watch what your forearm does.

4/26/2024 8:20pm In my experience, forearm pump is 100% related to brake power. Lack of brake power can come from a thousand different sources, but when brakes start to fade, hands and forearms start to hurt and everything on your body and bike has to compensate. Could be caused by: bad brake design, bad bleed, rotors too small in diameter, rotors too thin (1.8mm vs. 2.0 or 2.3), rotors worn out, old pads, wrong pad material, contamination, and more. Now, I have noticed that "holding onto the handlebars and moving my body around" is harder when my brakes aren't working. Typically, when...

4/25/2024 9:14pm I've been running Code RSC levers with Dominion A4 calipers for a few months and I've been pretty happy with them. Some generic sintered pads from Top Brake because they were fairly cheap. Front rotor is Trickstuff Dachle HD 203mm and rear is a HS2 200mm. Front definitely brakes better with the Trickstuff rotor. It was the only one I could find in the US so that's why I don't have one for the rear. Piston extension and retraction is more even and consistent than the Code calipers. Rotors do need to be as straight as possible to prevent run...

4/25/2024 9:09pm I followed this guy down the Cominion rabbit hole after he posted about it on another site. I'm super happy with them, though I haven't ridden enough other brakes to make relevant comparisons. My setup... Code RSC levers: because I had them already Dominion A4 calipers: 20% more hydraulic leverage than Codes MTX Gold pads: very strong once they're hot...
