Milton 26" Added a comment about feature Comparing Shimano XT Brake Performance - M8100 vs. M8200
1/10/2026 2:14am from the standpoint of an engineer, if shimano warns you against using low viscosity oil on the old models, it just means they cannot br confident enough that it works to be legally held responsible for the results since they have not tested it. Since brakes are a safety relevant component, a brake manufacturer has to run lots of tests to ensure (a guarantee is technically not possible) safe usage. The old brakes were designed and tested with the standard oil and I can see why shimano has zero motivation to run these (costly) tests for the old brakes while...

Milton 26" Added a comment about feature What's In, What's Out - Mountain Biking in 2026
1/1/2026 7:17am what about cheap hardtail bikes. the more optimized, tuned and electrified everything gets, the more I feel the urge to get something simple and and forget all this crap. Just recently I borrowed a friend's hardtrail that was a completely wrong size and I just rode it without questioning anything and had fun. How about trying to make shine the gear we got instead of trying to shine through better gear. It's never as easy as it is now and it's tempting. I want to get back to simplicity and not giving a f*ck about technology.

Milton 26" Added a comment about feature Sam Hill Interview - January 2025
1/19/2025 11:31am I would assume that roi for Nukeproof was not bad. Back then ist was just a cheap china brand, and it became really popular, at least here in EU. And in general, whatever has a Sam Hill name on it, people will buy. The riders with the money now (around 30-40) have watched all the earthed videos, for them, he will always be a legend. There's lots of roi to be made if you know what you are doing as a company.

9/23/2024 7:55am interesting, but you have tested a 29" rear wheel with an aluminium rim against a 27,5" carbon wheel, correct? if so, how can you be sure you perceived the influence of the hub and not the wheel size and rim material?

9/19/2024 2:04am Interesting, I actually went back from Bronson to Nomad. My first Enduro was a RM Slayer (the smoothlink one) with a coil shock that would actually make sense even today, could still ride it happily. That thing made me sell my dh bike, it was so good on the descents. But then I wanted something that goes a bit easier...

Milton 26" Added a comment about press release Introducing the 5th Generation Santa Cruz Bronson
8/23/2024 8:00am Partially. It's been discussed here on vital how different sizes have different weight distributions between the front and the rear wheel based on the ratio between the front and rear center. small sizes are more front wheel biased. this is a fact, calculate for yourself. I don't like it, that's my opinion based on lots of bikes I've ridden in the 20+ years of riding gravity mtbs.

8/22/2024 5:59am chainstays are too long on small sizes. it's ridiculous that compromises in regads to geometry are made at such a price point.

Milton 26" Added a comment about feature Can a Pedal Kickback Denier See the Light?
8/19/2024 5:30am yeah actually I struggled to understand the starling explanation as well, here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HgUVURC6Iw&t=1s. let's consider 2 scenarios. 1. rear suspension compresses. it has been discussed that chain growth turns the cranks. this is because the chainstays elongate and the chain cannot stetch. now let's imagine you are riding a bumpy trail and there is chain flop (let's say the chain sags, no more straight line). if now the chainstays elongate, then chain can compensate this length by straightening because this wave shape created additional chain length produced by the freewheel. so "actually" it is possible...
