The iPhone has curved edges. Ooh now the iPhone has square edges. Ooh but now it has curved edges again. Marketing.

I bought the hub because I knew it was good, I got an excellent price for it (under 200 EUR new, with 54T ratchet upgrade) and I do like it. I never buy things because ”they are the newest bling”, if I was, I'd be in i9, not DT market territory. I try to buy stuff that is reliable, has a good reputation and is not so rare that I need to get out of my way for spare parts. What I am questioning here is the line of communication from DT, as it seems to be contradictory: ”look, this...

I think you might want to review why you made the decision to buy this hub and if you actually like it. If you bought the hub because you want the newest bling, you are right to complain because you don't have the newest bling any more. But having the newest bling is always expensive and you have to keep buying new stuff all the time because new products are released very often especially the hubs these days. If you love the hub, then what are you even talking about? You even questioned why anyone even needs this many engagement...

As it happens, I'm a mechanical engineer and also an aspiring machine learning engineer, it would be so sick to work on something like that. Make things that are annoying (or do not add value to the experience) so smart that they just do their job somewhere in the background and completely disappear from your attention is an application for...

THANK YOU! Smile In times where everything unnecessairy gets replaced by AI, why not the suspension setting? 80% of riders have their settings somwhere between utter BS and mildly acceptable anyway. Base factory setting works for most riders, your suspension will learn YOUR base setting withing a couple of rides. Completely different trail conditions or you're tired? I'm sure your bike would notice before you do and adapt settings without you even noticing. As long as it's not automatic and selflearning where is the point? Wink Same goes for paper and pen vs. tablett. It's the process that should be...

If we have to deal with electronics on a bike, it should be integrated so that it makes my life easier. I can definitely see a self-learning and adjusting suspension and transmission. The suspension would monitor what you are doing and adjust itself to have an optimal setup for you liking. The transmission would also know you habits and would...

it will not sit deeper into the travel because it still needs to runs somewhere between 25-30% as a typical recommendation. If you are trying to achieve with a linear frame the same bottom out resistance as with a progressive frame, you're doing it wrong because you will run way too much sag which will mess up your geometry. So if you create a graph of force as function of travel, you have tree datapoints: 1. (0,0), 2. (travel@sag, force@sag), 3. (max_travel, force@max_travel). So datapoint 1 is fixed, datapoint 2. is more or less fixed as described above, which leaves...

The old one had 25 % apparently. This is a controverse topic, many companies shift back and forth. I believe for an aggressive bike something around 25%-30% makes sense. I am personally willing to trade a bit of occasional back wheel hangup for reserves and predictability. The latter is also controverse, many people argue that a linear bike is more predictable, that's not my view. In my opinion a linear bike releases travel more freely until there is none left, this can be an unpleasant surprise in compressions, overshoots/cases or if bump is more pronounces than expected. To me a...

I agree, 22% (with a ramp up towards the end) seems a bit conservative. I have personally never come to terms with anything significantly below 30% even with an air shock. With a coil shock you'll have to rely heavily on the bumper or the hydraulic bottom out. Not sure why the did this on the "party" bike.

well from the cutaway photo it's not visible if there is a flange or if the bushing is pushed against the seal which is pushed against a flange on the axle. Or maybe there is no flange and the cylindrical section of the axle transitions in to the tapered section? I can't find any images of the bare axle without the seal, so it's not clear to me where the force is going. Newmen Beskar pedal has a similar spring design for axial impact protection, they use a disc spring.

I like the idea, but I am not sure this works as designed. I used an online calculator estimate the sping rate (Source: https://www.johannes-strommer.com/rechner/federberechnung/). Assuming the OD is 10 mm, the wire diameter is 1,5 mm and it has 7 turns, the resulting sping rate 7.3 N/mm. Let's assume is is compressed by about 10 mm this results in a preload force of ca. 70 N. It's tiny. To give you an idea what 70 N are (Source: Google, original source unverified): "According to a study done by Virginia Polytechnic, it appears that the average ‘poke’ force is measured in...

the lock-on version of the longnecks is so good already, they are my favorite grips. I ride without gloves, they feel so comfortable and the wear is way better than everything I've used so far.

This is a very strange question actually. Anti-rise and anti-squat are properties of kinematics that describe how much movement the rear suspension produces as a reaction to input loads. Basically through geometry of suspension parts the input loads are balanced in a way that the suspension movement is reduced. Typically there are compromises to be made. In regards to anti-rise...

I quite like the 2FO DH. It has really stiff mid section, they feel like impacts. I can ride rough and fast downhill sections faster with the impacts, they feel stiff, damp, grippy and secure, at the cost of sensitivity. If I change back to freeride pros I feel like I have to work my feet muscles a lot more and to think about my feet more. This sensation fades after a couple of rides and on home trails I like the sensitivity. I feel like the 2FO DH are in the middle between impacts and freerider pros and I...

Very good, but I'd like to see the high or semi-high (like 5.10 karvers) version, I think riding flats is a bit messier and the ankle support and protection is a good thing. And helps to keep the dirt of the shoes when roosting or if it's just muddy.
