Milton 26" Added a reply to 170mm 36 vs 38 fork: which would you prefer?
3/14/2024 3:34am It's a controverse discussion here. Interestingly, in all the tests I have read the bigger stanchions were not perceived to be an andvantage in terms of comfort, rather the opposite. So, one thing is what you think should happen based on the tech numbers and the other thing is what you can feel during testing. Also interestingly, Isabeau Courdourier has...

3/14/2024 3:05am I really don't think a 6.3mm decrease in seal circumference is going to be a game changer for you, or even noticeable, but you're right that the 36 is lighter. I think there are riders for whom the increased flex of a smaller fork can be good. Probably riders under 150 pounds/68 kg. I'm not one of them, and I'm so glad the bigger forks are available. It was an immediately noticeable effect for me and an instant upgrade as a big tall guy with heavy tires and big brake rotors. If you're a lighter rider and bike weight is...

TEAMROBOT Liked a comment about Press Release DT Swiss Introduces All-New Complite Spokes
3/8/2024 12:35am Truing or tensioning a straight-pull spoke that isn't bladed can be maddening because the spoke will twist round and round as you try to tighten the spoke. Resisting the twist on a round spoke requires gripping and clamping onto the spoke itself, which is kinda sketchy, so bladed spokes are often preferred for straight-pull wheels. No such constraints on a j-bend wheel, which is why I asked what the argument is in favor of bladed spokes on a j-bend MTB wheel

3/7/2024 6:35am so the press release says a few things about comfort, I am wondering how these compare to a 1.6 mm comp? It's a combination of the cross-section area and the length of the segment that has this cross-section area. Are these more compliant or stronger than a 1.6 mm comp?

3/7/2024 6:29am Frankly, I don't get what's unclear about this press release. What I got from it is that DT Swiss strives to synergistically innovate across core competencies to explore new categories and achieve unprecedented benchmarks of holistic performance.

3/6/2024 8:59am This just dropped on the German mtb-news forum and reactions are similar. No one really really understands what's good about this spoke, the press release is neither informative nor convincing.

2/20/2024 11:55am I had no issue with a TC having too much grip in the rear, but usually run a faster rolling rear on a trail bike setup. I'll tolerate a drifty rear on the trail bike. I prefer the way the TC behaves as it looses traction in a corner. The Magic Mary tends to snap as the side knobs fold and want to tuck the front. The Tacky Chan slides to the outside more gradually and I find it a lot easier to recover. A MM with the TC side knobs would be just about perfect year round tire for...

Milton 26" Added a reply to 2.4 tires for enduro
2/20/2024 4:04am I'm not really concerned with grip, but rather what a tire does when it starts drifting. I'd say MM is somewhere between minion and highroller 2 in terms of slidiness/precision. I would put Big Betty at the more precise/left drifty side than MM, that's why I didn't really like MM&BB combination. MM&Hand Dampf was good, but HD just lacks overall...

2/18/2024 11:53pm Magic Mary takes some time to get used to if you are coming from something precise like butcher or minion. But when it's soft and the are roots, it's so good. Very forgiving (trade-off for pecision), the soft side knobs work well in off-camber sections and on roots. I'm currently using super soft front and soft rear, both super gravity...

Milton 26" Added a comment about product review Revo-F
2/17/2024 12:34pm Not sure this is true. I have been struggling to find flats that feel right and are sealed well enough for middle-european winters. I tried lots, most of pedals's seals are just a joke. For example DMR Vaults and Nukeproof Horizon have something resembling a dust cup that lets everything in. So you either rebiuld them twice a year or let them deteriorate slowly until you get new pedals (that's what most people do). I don't want that, I want all the part of my bike working properly (except shifting, seems to be an impossible task). Currently Burgtec penthouse flats...

Milton 26" Added a comment about press release Scott Introduces the All-New Ransom
2/4/2024 10:21am That's the best explanation I can think of. At this point it's clear that Scott engineers have been trying to solve a problem they wouldn't have in the first place if the shock didn't have to be hidden. This is the essence of overengineering: developing a solution that creates new problems each needing solution for "no reason". I define "no reason" as defining a hard requirement that the shock needs to be hidden. Cost being having 2 additional rods, 4 axles, 4 bearings and 4 threaded holes (and there may be even more) and creating additional design limitations and making...

2/4/2024 2:39am Great question! I'm wondering the same thing. I don't think the push rod has any significant effect on axle path or braking, so that means it would have to be about leverage rate on the shock. A guess: the new shorter travel Spark and Genius use a vertically-oriented shock that's driven by the top link. They probably couldn't do that with this arrangement because a) the longer travel shock is longer, and b) they need the shock to be fully internal for their weird Bold new aesthetic, and they couldn't fit a longer stroke shock internally in a vertical orientation...

Milton 26" Added a comment about press release Scott Introduces the All-New Ransom
2/3/2024 12:31pm I actually hate Scott for doing this because none of the people that buy it understand how expensive the maintenance of this integrated monster is. But Scott has always managed to get away with terrible designs in a similar way as Cannondale in the past days.
