Yeah this is an important one, the fork lowers (and many other fork lowers) are actually magnesium and will be more prone to oxidisation than the rest of the bike. I generally use a car wheel wax to finish my parts after the labels are applied. That way the labels will still adhere to the surface. For ongoing care it’s important to relax every few months and I also silicon shine after every ride. I do my best to avoid lots of water during washes though!

I used a lot of different methods to remove finishes and I’ve done quite a few rims now and it really seems to depend on the rims! The most consistent method without removing any material is definitely soda blasting. If you happen to be doing some dt Swiss rims I used caustic soda to remove the finish and then neutralised it. Just keep in mind once the finish is off you’ll need to either clear coat or wax the rims to protect them. I recommend wax because that way you can always buff out scratches in the future! 😁
