Choosing the greatest bike of all time based on performance is a pointless task as it is impossible for anyone to have ridden a large enough sample size in the period of relevance to make such a declaration. From my perspective in order for a bike to qualify it must meet a combination of criteria that make it iconic and representative of its specific genera of mountain biking. This should include performance (represented by race results/market acceptance), impact on the direction of niche and the desire from the intended market. Can't really argue with that. Each gen of the enduro has been rad (excl '99) vs. market competition since it came out ages and ages ago. For me the GOAT mtb is always the one you currently own if it has brakes and suspension that work properly on a regular basis.

I guess their ad translates to its a downhill shuttle bike and that makes sense. Why not have long travel if you have assist? Mine is 180f/165r and its my dh/xc/shuttle/bp/gravel/commuter because its still quicker than any category non assist bike. Boring flatter chundery xc trails are now fun as well

All the newer TRP DHR EVOs come with longer push rods now and the longer push rods are available to purchase for older DHRs. They allow the lever to be adjusted all the way to the grip if desired. Agreed, the factory bleed on many bikes seem to be a bit lazy. I think centering the pistons in the caliper makes an even bigger difference assuming the brakes are bled correctly. Basically centering the body of the caliper, pulling the lever a few times, and pressing against whichever pistons come out first to allow the opposite side to come out the same distance and eliminate the rotor from flexing between sides. 90% of spongy brakes I work on are from the rotor flexing from unequal pad contact. I mentioned spoke clearance with the Intends earlier, this kindof shows it it’s a non issue with standard steel spokes, but using anything with a larger diameter than normal and you risk hitting the caliper. It’s a beefy boi at 43mm wide. It’s 16mm from pad cutout to the outside towards the wheel. Most others I measured were 38ish total and 12-14mm from pad cutout I ran several wheels and had no issue except for the HAWK30X that are 4.5mm at the base. They just barely hit.

I'll pre-empt the inevitable butthurt about the below by saying that all of these options are good. They are all powerful, all reasonably easy enough to work on, and all (mostly) consistent. I mainly say that because people adore Saints and I found them to be the weaker in almost every category compared to others, but still good. I'd also caveat that "power" is somewhat misunderstood IMO. Most people don't have the means to measure overall, total available power, rather they base it on how the brakes feel. A brake like the Maximas may have a ton of overall power...

I've run MT8 and MT7 and loved them both, except for the fact that they both like to have some form of brake rub at all times. Also I find them to be way better with their race compound brake pads. I agree with this, and will add that a single human being is a relatively weak motor and gravity is a fickle lover. I think bike racing will always be a case of "the princess and the pea" because human beings are ultimately so bad at generating and maintaining speed and, in an environment like that, even tiny changes are immediately noticeable. That doesn't mean every change you can feel makes a difference in performance (far from it), but small changes are often very noticeable. It's about the ratio of system weight to rider weight that makes it so important in push bikes. A DH bike is about 16kg with a 80kg rider for a system weight of 96kg, so the CoG of the rider and small weight biases determine the entire balance of th system. Dirt bikes weigh minimum 100kg (for a 250, idk what a 450 weighs) with a 80kg rider, so the rider position matters a lot less.
