I don't know the person in question, but I can tell you that after 26 years of turning wrenches for a living that neither being an engineer or a good (even great) rider absolutely DOES NOT mean that you know how to work on bikes.

AFAIK those are closed up top so brakepads only removable downwards… aligning brakepads/rubbing will be a pain in the ass i guess.

I am no engineer, but I always thought it was because it's harder and more cost-prohibitive to machine a one-piece caliper for bikes so they are made in 2 pieces and bolted together. The larger the caliper the more bolts it needs to hold the two pieces together. I'm pretty sure Hope makes 1 piece calipers, I remember back in the day (early 2000's) that was one of the things that set them apart from other brakes.

I assume it is a two piece caliper, those bolts are how it is bolted together. They did this with the original Code calipers in the mid 2000's.

I haven't read every post in this thread so apologies if this has been covered. First, tons of modern high end bikes are very linear in their suspension design. In fact, I'd argue that for aggressive riders only Transitions & YT's, really have enough progression as delivered stock. Bike suspension designs are built for the center of the bell curve, as they should be, and that's going to be a more linear design that works well the with the lighter and progressive nature of an air shock. You should certainly be able to express your displeasure with the Cascade product...

Wow, it's crazy how much variation there is in these cheap posts. What's the deal? Everyone loves PNW right? I returned two brand new PNW Loam posts for having hilariously bad rotational play out of the box before I gave up on that idea and bought a OneUp which, aside from needing to be cleaned and greased a bit too frequently, has been great. If only servicing a Fox Transfer didn't cost almost as much as a cheap post...

Oneup has to be one of the only brands in MTB who actually give riders what they want Including the price point. Decent quality, well thought out without complication products The only thing extra thing i want from a dropper is a decent way to access the seat rail clamp bolts.
