7/30/2024 1:48pm Could I interest you in a Ford Freestyle w/ it's state of the art continuously variable transmission ? A Nissan Rogue with it's ever so "reliable" CVT?

7/30/2024 1:44pm having done a full rebuild on a spark last week i can say that bike sucks, so does the routing, the hidden shock and the whole concept ( broken bolts and all the crap that enters the headset find it's way down the frame where the precious shock is hidden ) such a crappy bike honestly

7/30/2024 1:38pm My understanding is that cycling disciplines only get so many spots and the summer games are fully allocated. That's why the UCI came up with the joke that is snow biking, as that can have a spot in the winter games. Personally the current situation suits me fine. DH already has enough problems without the IOC getting involved.

7/29/2024 3:30pm An electronic drivetrain creates more problems than it solves for me. Pros: No cables; Light action shifter with buttons that can be placed anywhere; Precise shifting Cons: Expensive; Have to charge it; Heavier; Doesn't shift that much better than mechanical; Bulkier derailleur; Harder to source parts in an emergency At the end of the day, my mechanical drivetrains shift fine, cost less, weigh less, and require very little maintenance. I don't really see any compelling reason to change. I'm sure eventually I'll end up with a bike with Transmission, which is ok. But I'll resist that change for as long...

7/29/2024 3:26pm I dunno, maybe it's not a bad idea to stay off of forums where people discuss racing until you've watched the race. It's a strategy that's always worked for me.😉

7/29/2024 3:26pm Booing at the finish line and during the medal ceremony is very poor form IMO. Pidcock won fair and square.

7/29/2024 3:26pm Well, I don't class myself as much of an XC fan, but what Pidcock just achieved was nothing short of amazing. One of the most exciting finishes to a race I've ever seen.

7/27/2024 10:40pm I'm sure I'm not the only one here with a cellphone constantly below 50% battery. I simply can't keep up with charging anything enough to justify batteries on my bikes anymore. My latest MTB build went back to being fully mechanical after running AXS since it dropped in 2019 and I couldn't be happier as a self admitted luddite. AXS can be ok if you've got two or more batteries on the bike to swap between incase of emergency (eg. AXS rear derailleur and AXS Reverb or 2X AXS road setup). I've dealt with too many dead batteries pre-ride or...

7/26/2024 2:51pm I think electronic shifting works well, but I don’t want any technology on my bicycle that ruins a ride if the battery runs out. My only exception for this is lights for night riding for obvious reasons. If my GPS, phone, or even a power meter dies, it’s unfortunate but I can finish my planned ride having just as much...

7/26/2024 2:38pm Fair point about weights converging but prices are not yet converging and likely never will. The cost premium of a new Levo over a new Status is around $2,000. Another issue is access. Here in North Carolina the only place that really justifies an ebike is Pisgah. I'd love an ebike to shorten the gravel death marches up Avery Creek and Clawhammer Roads but they are still not allowed. Maybe in 3-5 years they will be? Who knows?

7/25/2024 9:42am This makes so much sense. I couldn't figure out who the market was for XT autoshift, but it seems like the big brains at Shimano were using Mick Hannah to race and develop autoshift on the EDR e-bike so they could roll it out later on commuter e-bikes. Checks out. Kinda like the Canyon KISS system- doesn't make sense for actual MTB users, makes a ton of sense for commuter e-bikes and for high-income Germans using expensive e-MTB's as commuter bikes.

7/25/2024 9:30am Shifters will use 2032 cells, derailleur's battery will be internal, but replaceable. In other news, there will be a shifterless commuter/city bike group (called ESSA), with a rear dynamo hub and a capacitor in the derailleur for the first shifts when you start pedaling. To set up the starting gear, auto-shifting pattern, etc. you'll have to resort to the same phone app you'll use to adjust the shifting performance of the XTR/XT/Deore gruppos.
