Another hot take (in light of rumors the new Hightower will also move towards 160/160 mm travel): keep bike model names in the same category, do not move them around. One of the main offenders of this is Trek who moved the Fuel EX from what was a downcountry bike before downcountry existed (120/120) to almost enduro levels (150/140 with the Gen6). It can kind of be explained by people wanting to buy the same bike over the years when they progress, so start off with less travel and move to more travel and just throw them the same model...

I would add that part of this is also that the major evolution in the last 2-3 years have been in ebikes, which this forum is relatively hostile towards. Generalization and hyperbole incoming: take a 2021 ebike and compare it to it's 2024/5 variant, it will look better, have better geo, better integration, more range, more power, lighter... Take a 2021 MTB and compare it to its 2024/2025 variant, it's the same bike but with headset routing, no rear derailleur routing and maybe some minor reworking of front and rear lengths or suspension curves barely anyone can feel.

Correct. I helped lay out the new tune names etc. We had the issue where a M tune on a Super Deluxe did not match the M tune on a Deluxe and that did not match the M tune on VIVID... Also- we had a shock with extra L1, L2, L3 and L4 tunes (in addition to normal L, M and H), they were not spaced evenly and no one could remember if L1 was lighter or heavier than a L2 tune. Regarding “derailments;“ Every discussion in here is about tech and innovation. If we are discussing damper designs, rubber compounds, frame materials, etc. How are any of those discussions a derailment? Does everything HAVE to be a rumor? I haven’t seen anybody post a movie review, a story about a riding trip, or the current weather in Iowa. It’s all relevant. Funny thing about all those links people put up to discuss specific topics. Nobody engages with them. This thread is always active and always interesting. If rumors are sparse, what’s the harm?

Hot take... Does the average rider want better suspension compared to what he or she has now? Does he or she know it could be better? If yes, are they willing to act upon that knowledge to actually change things? Or do they just want to ride their damn blue bike?

The constant whinging that tech rumours is getting derailed is kind of annoying and derailing in itself. In my opinion its OK to discuss the tech rumour or current happenings for at least a page or two, and then they generally dissipate or move to other threads. If a legitimate large rumour or release happens it naturally takes over the thread anyway, they're discussing damping and leverage because there isn't a lot happening right now. Plus, Primoz, Teamrobot and Cascade make up some of the best and most knowledge members and are creating a valid discussion. For better or worse...

When the sidewall support is very noticeably reduced, generally 15 runs. There is a big drop off around the 5th run and it slowly gets worse from there. By the 15th run it feels like rocks have no resistance compressing into the rim even at increased pressures. My knobs are generally passable at this time on Maxxgrip but the DH sidewalls just don’t offer support even at 32+ psi.

I don't disagree with this at all. Twin Tube designs reduce hysteresis as the shock transitions from compression to rebound. I don’t think they increase the range of adjustment. As far as I know, Cane Creek was the only one saying that you didn’t need frame specific tunes. I’m kinda skeptical of those CTS valves that Formula is doing. Probably because the UCI won't drop any more track disciplines to make room for it. Personally, I'm glad for it. DH currently has enough on it's plate without having to cosy up to the IOC.
