Imagine you're a average user that doesn't have a workshop, the tools, the knowledge and the heatshrink to pull apart the fork, change the spring, apply heatshrink to it and put it back together. If the fork is knocking, is too soft or too stiff, you need to go to the shop. How much will it cost you to have the correct spring installed? How much to make it quiet if the shop didn't apply the additional heatshrink on their own? How much does changing pressures on an air fork cost? In the eyes of the average user, is a...

Something 5Dev shared with me last week that I thought was neat—steel spindles that add around 500g low and central on the bike. They developed them last year with Neko/Frameworks as a clean/simple way to add weight to bikes instead of just slapping a chunk of lead to the bb. Only two options which limits compatibility, but a neat idea nonetheless. Deets - https://www.5dev.com/products/heavy-metal-downhill-spindles?variant=464… - 139mm = 616g - 145mm = 649g - Made from 17-4 stainless steel in San Diego - $199.99, or $100 up-charge with any 5Dev crankset order

my best guess that it is a tunable cartridge of the air spring, giving the airspring negative (?) more volume, like on their shocks. You can buy "LinearXL" air cans for the super deluxe, so I assume this is the same idea. These forks should feature "air preload", whatever that is. Screenshot from new mondraker DH bike listing: Edit: This tech has been seen featured on the next gen Zeb as well.

I once sent PVD an honest question by email about a technical drawing on his website and he answered : "W hat your asking falls into the 'that's a stupid question' category. Only a terrible person would answer a stupid question." Such a nice guy

It really depends on the linkage that they use, and how they try to preserve the kinematics. A lot of the time that is how it is done, since it reduces the number of parts that they need to make. You already need to make 4 different front triangles for an S-XL size run, why make 4 different size rear triangles or 4 different size chainstays and seatstays? Keeps inventory organization easier, fewer skus etc and is just practical. You can also keep the kinematics more or less the same between sizes, since all the moving parts of the linkage...

Homie, it's not. Jackson's bike is set up for Jackson; what makes him fast is the fact that he's a generational talent. Here's some childhood videos of him doing shit on a push bike that most grown men couldn't do on a DH bike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf56cWhEd8I. Keep in mind: I'm saying this as someone who is explicitly in favor of long-ass chainstays and short reaches and tall stacks and long wheelbases. Go back in this thread and see where I'm coming from and what I'm riding. I'm a big proponent of that design philosophy because I think it rides way better...

Trying to take bike design/fit cues from pros is generally madness. I trust that Max Verstappen has clear ideas on how he wants his car to feel, but I'm not going to take those principles and try to apply them to mine, even if it's faster in an absolute sense. Likewise, I don't want the fastest bike in isolation, I want a bike that works well with how I ride bikes and the terrain I'm riding. If EDR pros are all sizing down to the smallest frames they can or sizing up to the biggest they can fine, great, whatever...

After watching La Thuille, I was thinking Jackson’s bike is very active and he is very active laterally. But he may not be as active as others fore and aft, which makes sense to me. He also looks crazy slow compared to how fast he is going. I would attribute this to his relaxed stance and hovering over everything.

Also regarding EDR riders sizing down. These guys are getting longer CS's relative to the WB and stack is roughly the same. Yes the WB is shorter, but the balance is better.
