2/18/2026 2:31am 100% agree with you and the difference is even more stark on an e-bike having used 2 different sets of XTR 4 piston brakes with new rotors and pads on 2 bikes compared to 1 set of Mavens on a 3rd bike. As a larger rider (250lb kitted + ~50lb e-bike) the XTRs routinely have me worried on long descents...

2/18/2026 2:25am According to the enduro mag test, XTR is more powerful than Dominion A4 and TRP DHR Evo, and close to the same power as mavens. I don't think their lab test is an accurate reflection of real world riding, because it's definitely not what I have experienced.

2/18/2026 2:24am I wouldn't put much weight in the enduro mag test findings - the results don't make any sense. I see a few issues: 1. Shimano XTR, XT, and SLX all have the same mechanical and hydraulic power output, but the test results show them as being wildly different. 2. They also show TRP DHR evo as dramatically underperforming XTR. Having used both, this is just incorrect... 3. And lastly, XTR being next to Maven in terms of test results in laughable. XTR is a cross country brake compared to maven stopping power. Based on the wild discrepancy between mechanically equal...

2/16/2026 3:41pm Even the reviewers at Pinkbike noticed the front to rear balance was off. Normally I ride an XL or S5 in their range. That’s a 435 chain stay on a 1286 wheelbase for a e-bike that I’m wanting to climb all the things on. That 1.956 ratio is not going to be great at that without an xc race setup on the front end. I would want a 1235 wheelbase to be in the neighborhood of decent balance in that bike. And don’t get me started on the geo chart for the Levo 4 and how it’s so obviously wrong...

2/15/2026 11:58am I’m not one to normally comment on an e bikes looks.. but the battery on the current levo is excessively large, so large in fact that I can’t bring myself to want one. If they make an SL option and opt for a slimmer 600w battery they would be on my list to try.

2/13/2026 8:02pm Ripley SL next Tuesday. teaser on the Ibis insta, you can see the general shape. This should appease all the dad shredders on MTBR who keep telling me the V5 is too much of a trail bike now.
