Gas Gas had the right idea with the moto-inspired replaceable plastics kits for their ECC ebikes. How many carbon frames become landfill waste from rock strikes or crashes where a sacrificial "fairing" could have taken the blow? If the industry wants to improve durability, this is the right place.

Cartert Bilawchuck is a 16-year old who made his own bike, it ended up looking incredibly polished - and rad ( it was a lock for Vital BOD of course too)! This deep dive edit is full of insights into the trials and tribulations behind pulling off such a project, I figure it should be of interest to the followers of this thread:

Having ridden bikes from several major brands, my SC Megatower has easily been the best I’ve owned when it comes to product support, parts availability, and clear, reliable customer service. I used to make fun of people who had an SC, but after dealing with repeated warranty issues on other bikes, I get it now. The Mega is a sick bike, the VPP suspension rides great, but honestly, it’s the overall ownership experience that really sets Santa Cruz apart. I'm in the market for a shorter travel ripper, and SC is at the top of the list, even if it's...

For mtb it can be hard to decouple frame flex from wheel flex. the wheel is a complex system (axle, hub, spokes, rim and tire) that influences this a lot. I've got my Megatower V1 frame that I've had for nearly 7 years and after trying 5 different wheelsets on it, each one gave it a different handling characteristic. Rider...

Avinox is over-hyped. This new Oso is just about ideal as a non-ebike owner. It seems to be very thoughtfully designed. My only hangup is the price ($2k more than the old one). I still hope they do an SL version. Also, I think the modular dropouts bode well for the next HD6. I heard a rumor that will be...

The glovebox on the Stigmata has the same "bump". I'd theorize it gives more room inside, since the mechanism for the door would fight for space with the frame bag if you packed it tight on my MT V2. I'm pretty bummed if the Megatower is going away. A friend said they think it isn't, new one is launching soon...

Sounds like a skill issue. Anyway, there's a thread for you to whine about brakes in. Your comments add nothing about tech rumors.

This is spot on. I have probably 5000 miles on Megatower V1 and 2000 miles on V2. The SC lower link VPP bike have a "simple" but effective kinematic that can highlight differences in shock characteristics and performance. Shorter travel bikes seem to typically be optimized around a single shock and base tune, when you deviate from that it's uncharted...
