This is a very valid question that I think most ebike owners dont really think much about pre-purchase. Some because they are newish to the sport and dont realize it and others probably don't really care (if you can afford an 8-14K emtb, you're probably not hurting too bad for cash). I plunked down coin for an Orbea rise hydro and a bunch of upgrades to slightly change geo and cater it more to my descending focused riding preference. After a largely disappointing experience with the EP8 motor, Orbea CS and the bike itself; I pulled the ripcord and sold...

I sporadically think about buying an e bike, then as I delve a bit deeper I start reading all the stories about motor replacements and other issues. The amount of used e bikes where the seller says it's got a brand new motor or motor and battery are really off putting, the failure rate is unacceptably high IMO. Manufacturers only offering a two year warranty on motors and batteries is also scary to me. No way I'm spending £5k+ on something that's potentially worth jack shit in 3 years.

Oh ok sweet as, so you have an issue with them following a completely normal distribution model? Were you planning on shipping it back to canada for a service every time as well? I normally wouldn't engage here but needed to clarify - The european distributors are the ones carrying shocks, parts and tools to make sure you're looked after in a reasonable time frame and the pricing is often dictated by certain things outside of their control. If that makes them too expensive for you then thats cool - you're welcome to get something locally produced if saving money...

Also saw this last night: https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2025/10/08/peopleforbikes… Didn't have a bike industry pro-tariff stance in the cards. Protectionism at it's best- save one company for the industry to crater.

I think the problem with a bike park is that you need to open/start with enough fun trails for every ability to keep customers coming back from the get go. If a park is established, it has to be way more cost-effective than winter operations. You have no grooming costs, no snowmaking, significantly less operational lifts, limited lessons/coaching compared to winter, less patrollers, no snow safety costs (avalanche mitigation), etc, etc. The problem is that most American resorts/hills only dip their toes in. They build a couple trails, riders come try them for a day, then don’t need to come...

Do you think lifetime warranty killed that company? My assumption would be no, unless they were just monumentally stupid and didn't do sufficient forecasting to properly bake the cost of running the program into the cost of the rim. Personally, there's two way more obvious things to point at: 1. general bike market conditions 2. the difficulty of running an American manufacturing company in the current tariff/regulatory bizzarro world going on down there. Edit: another company falling before the deadline!

Lifetime warranties are a horrible idea even if people like me loooooove them. I ride stuff for a long time, and anything (not just rims) that's not a total boat anchor will eventually break. I've literally never had a rear rim that I didn't eventually ruin, and I'm fine with that. I don't want an insanely expensive 700g carbon rim that will actually last a lifetime and not tank the company with warranty claims. I'd rather run an EX 511 equivalent rear at 550g-ish and I'll lace a new one over when needed. Sometimes pointy rocks are in landings -...

Can someone explain how the business model for carbon wheels ever worked? I buy a wheelset for $1.5k and it has a lifetime warranty. I swap them from bike to bike indefinitely because I've invested a good chunk of money in the hoops. I am never a repeat customer unless I take up the n+1 bike life, or go mullet /full 29 (feel like most people know which rear wheel size want on this front at this moment in history) Said, carbon wheels company now has to spend tons on marketing to try and court new customers for almost every...

Whilst the pivot might have a few more broken frames than others, there's no way that impact would cause that on an in tact frame. Either it was previously damaged or defective. No way it would a survive a sin le run at a world cup or hardline if it was that weak!

Gravel bikes and endurance road bikes are what I used to recommend to a lot of people. Although, now both of those fall into what some are calling the "all-road" bike as gravel bikes are becoming more like early 29er hardtails.. IMO, these all-road bikes are perfect for people who aren't fully committed roadies and want a bike that gives more options on where they can ride. Perfect for dealing with crap roads and even worse drivers where I live.. You mentioned previously working at Specialized.. It was a trip to Morgan Hill for SBCU that let me try a...

I don't disagree, however have found that if I want to be comfortable on my HT, I need to be much more active on the bike (more intentional with line choice, unweighting/raising the front/rear wheels over stuff, etc). "Plowing" either downhill or up is not a great time. Turns out I can't ride my 130mm, SS steel hardtail in the same manner as my RAAW Madonna. Lol

I feel you, but some hardtails are legitimately comfortable (when reframed as gravel bikes…) speci Fuse is stiff and sucks, epic hardtail is compliant and feels so good to ride. im telling you guys, the majority of the gravel segment has never tried a mtb (thinks they don’t need one, overbiked, etc.) or doesn’t even need a “gravel bike” (just needs a road bike with 38s and lower gearing.) the gravel category exists because people think road bikes can’t have 45c tires and also that mountain bikes are silly and unnecessary for singletrack. What we see in practice though is...
