Just a sort-of early heads up: The Monster Energy Pro Downhill Series wraps up with the US Open the weekend of September 12-13 at Deer Valley. Finals for the Pro group are September 12. This race has one of the biggest winner's prizes in MTB racing: $15,000. Registration is already underway. Asa Vermette said in an interview at World Champs that he's going to be there. A lot of riders wait until the week of the race to register, but some of the riders already registered are: Asa, Aaron Gwin, Bode Burke, Mikey Delesalle, Mack Manietta, Neko Mulally, Monster Pro...

Silver lining? That was the most even-handed news report on illegal trail building that I've ever seen. A conspicuous absence of pearl clutching and hyperbole. Maybe there's hope for the future yet.

The XCO track in Roanoke is such an embarrassment. We have the best crop of xc racers in 30 years, but we are making them race on a track that wasn’t good enough for local racing in the 90’s. If you have a junior that is interested in racing, they better have a front row call-up because the track has zero passing opportunities, no selective features and a paved start into the first singletrack that is about 25 seconds long. With less than 30 elite men and women, a horrificly unsuitable track is less of a problem, but it sucks...

Don't think anyone who saw Meier Smith (even before he signed at Giant) didn't think he'd win a World Cup. Hindsight being 20/20, there was an edit of him hitting a park in Australia few years back I immediately thought he would win World Cups. Came back from the Lake placid race! Thanks to all of you who suggested watching the juniors up top and moving down the track as the elites came down, it was an amazing experience. I also watched the XCO on Sunday, which was a real treat - modern XC is really great to speculate, probably even better than DH even though I'm a DH fan. I went against on the speculator path next to the track and was able to see riders consistently pop up over the 8 laps, before going to the finish straight to see the final sprint...
