My take on the split is two potential reasons: Reason 1 - USAC decided to try something different based on year after year struggles with cramming so many races, practices, qualifying, etc. into one week with 5 disciplines across age groups (8-80) and skill levels (non -championship and true cat 1 and pro "championship races". @Trill Will I'm well aware that venues and promoters typically lose money on Nationals. I was suggesting that if we had a strong national cycling federation, they would do what it takes (pay) to have nationals at good venues. But we don't. And we're left with places willing to possibly/probably take a loss on putting the event on. Sad state of affairs.

So with that last sentence from Rider Mike, I'm curious to hear... Do folks actually think USAC "Pays" venues to put on national champs? It could not be more the opposite. It costs venues 10's of thousands of dollars, (maybe in the 6 figures when it was combined XC and DH) to meet USAC requirements, pay USAC officials, house all...

@ark09050 Interesting... With the Snowshoe round of the WC not scheduled until the very end of September that could be a possibility. @TEAMROBOT Now we're talking! I didn't mind the venue, but talking on a microphone isn't impacted by the altitude. Just needed a little more chapstick... @sspomer my first thoughts when I saw the WC schedule were definitely related to pre-season #USDH hopefully getting a bump in elite rider participation for pre-season shakedowns Downhill Southeast should be popping with top level talent this year with rounds in March, April, and May on the calendar. And the Tennessee National at Windrock is moving to a full week+ spanning two weekends (Mar 17-26 from what I've heard) so that event should be blowing up as well as it's the next week after the DHSE opener at the Trials Training Center in TN. First DH race not until June 9 means tons of #USDH fun! (i hope : ) - also no whistler at all. it was "TBD" on early versions of this. 6-7 week break between val di sole and andorra in july/august is LONG. crankworx whistler slots in july 21-30

So many nuggets from Mickey... Kiss the ring my precious . That second to last paragraph is spot on. One can only hope that the Waltons will also help further racing with quality course builds and a properly funded national race series across the entire country.
