TayRob Liked a reply to forum topic Why Do High-end Integrated MTB Bar/Stem Combos Exist?

Unfortunately, even as we approach the year 2024, mountain bikes still take influence from road cycling instead of doing or using things that actually work. In my mind, this is why we still see 170mm travel bikes coming stock with 175mm cranks, one piece bar and stem combos, and one size fits all chain stay lengths. Road bike DNA is inherently imbedded in MTB DNA, we’ve gone a long way though, from running 650mm wide bars with 120mm stems and 1.95 tires to where we are now, but it’s still tangentially tied to mountain bikes. Also, like Charlie said on...

9 speed 10-50 or similar is too wide - the spacing between jumps is noticeable even on emtb and not fun. been there done that - even with less wide chinese cassettes it's just too much of a jump to comfortably change gears.
That makes little sense considering we're on an american website where everyone carries their bike to the trailhead in ridiculous trucks...

I think Formula used to have even better finish and more attention to details in their The One in 2008/2010 and R0/Oval in mid-2010. The only thing that sucked a lot back then was non-existent pads spacing - combined with flexy rotors it was a recipe for a neverending song on the trails. Glad they fixed that problem in the...

I run cura 4 since they came out on a couple of bikes and they’re perfect. I am cheap so I only run AliExpress brake pads from KingStop. All good, plenty stopping power and no issues with durability.

Great question! The tough thing about chainstay length is that there are very different camps on this topic, even within people of a certain height. I'm a tall person who swears by long chainstays, but lots of tall people hate them. So while it makes sense to have size specific chainstays so RC grows proportionately with FC, if they're not adjustable, your CS number's still not going to please everyone. As far as I see it, there are three options for frame manufacturers: 1. Adjustable chainstays with a big range of adjustment. Think of the outgoing Kona Process X, where...

MTB forums/comments: Reviewers are industry schills, they never write anything bad about any products. Everyone knows that sucks/is unrideable/will fail and won't get warranty support. Also MTB forums/comments: This reviewer wrote something critical about a product I happen to like, they must be biased against that company. Total hatchet job man!

haha I know how it feels to have someone fast as f*(k behind you for a race..... csh time My last DH race I was in over 35's at a clubby in Ourimbah, I was hungover as all shit and we went down just before Elites. There is no seeding in the club rounds so I just chilled up the top trying to get it together. I go up to the tower and wedge my old ass on the bike not really wanting to ride but what do you do. Behind me, Jack Moir is walking up the tower, so...

Sometime in the early 2000's, I was supposed to ride at some event with Wade Simmons. I ended up missing the group ride but got to ride with Nicolas Vouilloz. Fast forward a few years I ran again into Wade Simmons in Moab with Jordie Lunn (RIP) and Darren Berrecloth, they were nice enough to invite me to the shooting of their Movie "Roam" and then invited me to some Mexican restaurant afterward. Fast forward a few more years, I was riding down a rock slab on Mt Seymour and I literally crashed my bike over .... Wade Simmons again...

I saw Loris Vergier a few years ago filming a promo for a trail bike in Roubion bike park, he kept complaining that "the bike feels like shit" Tongue I also saw him around the same time at the top of the longest stage in EWS Valberg... He was badging people's timing chips, what a nice dude! I took a great picture of Loic Bruni at a race when he was a junior, sent him a friend request on facebook which he accepted, sent the photo and never got a thank you or even a word in response, so we...

I raced EWS in Finale in 2017. Jesse Melamed broke his hand before the race. So I broke the same hand on the same special stage during the race. I guess we're spiritual brothers ever since.

"I actually kept up with Sam Hill" should be the headline. That's resume material. Who cares how many practice laps, still counts in my book.

I washed my bike in the river in Morzine under the lieft and Benoit Coulanges did the same on the other bank. I asked him if he wanted a crushed water bottle I used to move the dirt out of crevices and sadly he politely declined.

It used to be much harder to ride ten or so years ago. There were no chicken lines, and barely any berms to support you mid track. It's been groomed a lot. Still a great racing track even now, by any standard it's great.

How did they fix the issue with the land ownership after the bottom road intersection? The one where the currently rideable track ends. I take it it will still be inaccessible for us mere mortals who arent keen on racing IXS cups?
