Explodo Added a comment about product review Jab

I seem to be a magic exception that has the problem. Perhaps it has to do with the axle path of the Ripmo. It doesn't work on my combo. You're right that I was too harsh and I changed the wording. I was extremely annoyed after being very excited to try out the derailleur only to find that I have to take it off.

I've got one ride on one of these now on my Ripmo. I will not ride it again on that bike. Buyer beware on this derailleur. It sticks out a lot and goes much farther forward than an XT derailleur. I thought my heel was hitting the chainstay on the first downhill I came to, which would have been really odd. It turns out my heel was hitting the derailleur. It works as advertised as a derailleur. When in high gear like you'd use on a fast descent, there's 7" from the front of the derailleur to the center of...

Explodo Added a comment about press release Galfer Revolutionizes MTB Braking With The New Disc Shark® EVO

5/6/2026 8:56am
As a Hope floating rotor user, I was amused at their ad copy of "fully compatible with leading MTB braking systems without structural modifications." I like the Hope rotors and use them on my Shimano, Hope, and Shigura brake setups. The filing that has to be done isn't enough to deter me since it's just a little extra metal on one of the feet. Once Galfer gets some more center colors, they'll be in direct competition with Hope if their rotors stay straight like the Hope ones have.

It depends on your proportions. You really can't just do it based on height. Example: I'm 5'9" with short legs. My torso and arms are long, so I have to fit a bike to that. I can ride M bikes just fine, but I have to use a considerably longer stem to not feel cramped. L just fits better for...

There's only some weird push-pull imbalance if you think of your torso as fixed. I can appreciate the feel of a long stem. You sort of steer with your upper body and you feel like you're flowing. I generally just use a 50 though. The most important thing is to use what feels best to your body on that bike.

I'm surprised it weighs that much. I just built a Banshee Titan with beefy parts and it's at 34 lbs. I love titanium, perhaps they kept lots of material for bombproofness.

I've been really tempted to buy one of those to try out. I just have to decide which bike gets it.

Explodo Added a comment about feature 32" Wheels—You're Kidding, Right? Bikes: Unaffiliated EP.5

1/23/2026 9:37am
I've been on real mountain bikes for 35 years now. The jump up from 26 was a good thing. I think I'm at my limit for bigger wheels. I was 5'9" when I was younger. Making the wheels bigger is just going to give me less space on the bike, or the wheelbase would have to be stretched to get me more between them thereby worsening my ability to get around tight corners. I have no issue with dual 29 and I'm sure I could get used to dual 32, but I don't see any benefit. The "wheels carry more...

My experience mirrors yours that the Argotal in 2.6 on a 35 internal rim is an absolutely horrible tire for cornering grip on hardpack. The knobs fold over so soon that it makes you unable to corner aggressively when your trails are rock and hardpack. On soft surfaces, the Argotal is really good. My experience with the Kryptotal and Assegai is that they're both worse than DHF/DHR on rock/hardpack, but the Assegai is passable while the Kryptotal still folds the shoulder lugs too easily.

I went to look at the builds...no Shimano unless you want wireless? That seemed odd. I then went and looked at the Ripmo page. It was the same "no Shimano unless you want wireless" What the hell?

Yes, exactly. It'd be a very valid test because for people who are only going to have one bike, it will tell them what they're sacrificing for that extra travel. They probably won't be using DH tires on their long-travel trail bike if that's the only bike they have and they pedal up. Lots of people over-bike because they like...
