Explodo Added a reply to Clipless Pedals Thread

I started on SPD in the late 90s but hated how often I would get bounced out of the pedal after moving to Utah and bombing around on a hardtail. I asked at the local shop which pedals held best and was recommended ATACs and have been on them ever since. They've been fantastic. Easy in and out but great...

Explodo Added a reply to The Mountain Bike Crank Length Discussion

I admit to being shorter-crank curious, but there's no way I'm going to buy a crankset just to try it out. I've been on 175s for 35 years and I've had no trouble with them, so buying a part just because some people on internet say they liked them is hard to justify...especially when all the research says "meh...doesn't matter...

I can tell you that the Argotal is absolutely horrible on hardpack or loose over hard, so they'd knock it down for that. The shoulder lugs just fold over way too easily leading to loss of traction. It's fantastic on softer surfaces and rolls nicely otherwise.

Explodo Added a reply to The Risk of Riding Mountain Bikes

11/26/2024 9:44am
There are really multiple types of MTB riding. I'll mention two of them and we will call them "classic" and "modern" to differentiate them. Classic type is where you go out and ride natural trails in the wilderness. Modern is more bmx and moto inspired and has lots of jumps on groomed trails with higher overall speeds. The rise of...
I'm normally 210, I think I ride hard, but I ride alone all the time so take that with a grain of salt. I like going fast and rock gardens. I have a set of Ibis(I believe they're actually Stan's) carbon 35 internal rims and they've been great. I have two sets of Nextie carbon rims and they've also been...

The Argotal is amazing on soft surfaces but kinda crap on hardpack. It's not an ideal front-range tire because of that, but it is still quite good. If the Kryptotal fr came in 2.6 I would definitely try it out. Even the Kryptotal re doesn't hold an edge as well as DHF/DHR on hard surfaces. Maybe they would if I...

Explodo Added a reply to Brand Loyalty

I had a Shred Dogg and a Gnarvana. A bunch of those parts went to the Transition. I'm happy with my Transition so far, but I just built it up earlier this year. No issues yet. I've been on my Ibis Ripmo for soon-to-be 6 years. I've had no issues that weren't dealt with very quickly by warranty and I've...

I've been riding so long(34 years) that some things I just buy without really thinking about it. They've proven themselves in the past and I like parts that hold up. I avoid anything from SRAM or their sub-brands due to their past, even though I'm sure they have some fine parts now. I just don't trust them due to my...

Yeah.....I understand that folks need money to live, but you really have to sell out your ideals(or have bad/none to begin with) to go perform there. Anyone who did so has less respect from me.

Explodo Added a comment about press release TIME | Pedal Forward

So...SRAM changed nothing but the colors and names and jacked the prices way up...I guess that's not out of line with my low expectations of SRAM. I was worried they'd totally ruin them somehow because I have zero faith in SRAM.

I always keep the bike on the 140 setting, but I get your point. I'm looking for a shock for the Gnarvana swap, which will be a 160 rear.

I don't know if I'll ever get around to trying a coil again because it's an expensive thing to test only to be disappointed. I'm in the market for a new rear shock since I'm swapping the rear end on the Shred Dogg to turn it into a Gnarvana...just collecting parts now.
