Good description. I agree about the crouched position, and if he's not ready to buy a new frame yet, I think taller bars/stem spacers could also help get him up and back a little.

Asa must have been asked to do a frame strength test, that's a really scary spot to land on intentionally

Personally I've gone back and forth with Shimano and Sram brakes over the years, I even did the lever upgrade mentioned above with the MT420 calipers, and I now swear by TRP brakes. TRP Quadiems can be found for $150 per end and in my opinion are the best bang for you buck brake out there, I run them on my DH and trail bike. Another thing I want to point out on brakes, all systems benefit from metallic pads regardless of manufacturer. Sure they are a bit louder when wet but they are by far the most powerful and...

haha surprisingly not that bad...but the timber trail is pretty flat. And with a bunch of bikepacking gear I'm sure everything feels slow. I don't know the weight but it's pretty dang heavy like yours.

I had a guy at work tell me, ironically mere moments after I had read ferrintino’s piece on NSmB https://nsmb.com/articles/the-thief-of-joy/ anyways this coworker drops: what’s wrong with Strava? It’s just like racing whenever you want? as a former racer who worked really hard to achieve my goals and develop a race craft (I still suck) I found this comment sickening. Like it made me sick. Sickening. Like racing is actually lining up. Strava is not racing, and for those that think it could be, goactaully race. Xc, enduro, dh —Fucking race dh people. That’s racing. Strava is masturbation. and now...

When the seat is lower one's pelvis meets it at a different angle while seated. Thus a higher nose. It works the same with dirt jumpers and trials bikes. You should try it.

FYI, XTR cranks use the same construction method overall (hollow crankarm and a skin glued on on the inside). But I guess there's less of a chance of something going wrong as the spider isn't part of the glued bond.

figure most of you inside-types know by now, but for any roadies w/ shimano hollowtech cranks, there's a pretty significant recall. BRAIN has the deets - https://www.bicycleretailer.com/recalls/2023/09/21/shimano-recalls-760-…

I like it for recording my miles and elevation. I like to compare my activities from past years and be able to reflect on my fitness level, plus it acts as an "odometer" for my bicycle. I could not care any less about the social aspect of the app - don't need followers. I'm going to go turn off my aggregate data right now.

the social element is cool - good convo starter for closed group training etc, or just yarns. Seeing posts from my mates that have an engaging summary, a photo or funny tagline, or a short story of the ride is cool - I like hearing how they're doing etc. It's like the close friends functionality on insta. been mentioned already, but can't stand the competitive side of it. makes people less fun to be around for sure.

Maybe calling people clowns isn't a great way to get people to engage in a productive discourse on any particular issue. Also, relivent: https://xkcd.com/1357/ As far as Pinkbike, I think they'll be fine for a long while. Their operation isn't too capital expensive (it's basically hosting cost and an office in Squamish) and they can always shed payroll before taking servers down. We'll probably see more "sponsored" reviews in the future, as that's just becoming more of a thing across all review sites for anything.
