Heres a Vid of a downhill bike I built a few years ago....this is a different type of dual suspension but the concept is the same....the bike is beng ridden through a gnarly rock garden and the 200mm Ohlins dual crown forks are working nicely...setup for plushness right through the stroke as bottoming control is now on the secondary suspension which gives an additional 75mm travel.....so 275mm total. Note the secondary suspension links at the top of the picture is moving also as the Telefork is moving....the level of plushness and control has to be felt to be believed and...

The motor industry didn't work out 90% of the tech in MTB's we ride today. Why would we use them as a benchmark for what's possible. Anyway I think it's absolutely rad to see DIY innovation, and I love this hybrid fork. Can't wait to see it progress. There's no reason to wait for innovation from the big brands, just look at Frameworks.

Ask any suspension guy with half a brain and they will agree that linkage forks can have HUGE benefits, and yes turning them in to a marketable product is a massive hurdle but I think its very much worthwhile that people keep plugging away at the concept. Although this isn't "just" a linkage fork either but it does provide a good way of combining both types

If we don't explore things then how will we innovate

I’ve used solidworks for designing bikes for a few years, it works really well and has everything you need to make steel/alloy bikes. The surfacing is a little tricky if your thinking carbon hence all the mentions of creo and onshape. You can also get a solidworks connected license for $12 a month.

"There are CEOs, CFOs, fund managers & capital allocators that have built their entire career on a net-zero interest rate environment." This is well said, and pretty scary to think about. People who have only ever thought in terms of high risk, long-runway projects and now have to learn to live within their means and make money the boring, slow...

It will just have a regular travel sensor on the fork and one on the front shock....I have done this before and it is very insightful in to how well this setup can work...stay tuned.

yeah if this setup catchs on it will keep the "how do I " Forums going for years :-) This adds another dimension to setup possibilities and less compromise in tuning options....in my experience once you have a solid foundation on what it takes to make it work/how it works....its relatively easy.

Popping in to add that Redburn Design (a British firm who have worked with Orange and Privateer) have a very helpful series of tutorial videos on frame design using OnShape, which in my experience is a little simpler and easier to work with than Fusion 360. I'm currently in the middle of trying to design a frame in Fusion for an industrial design project based on a linkage I came up with over the summer.

It got me to reach out to them, a personal msg from the fellas at E13 addressing my questions & a purchase. So yeah I enjoyed the article. Granted Schroeder is piss ant light compared to me so we'll see how my "zero finesse/max psi" technique pairs with their rim. 😁

The chain will come off if you do it like that, you need raised edge to keep if from getting stuck between cassette locking and frame.

Tairin a little hub upstart here in Vancouver is making a silent clutch hub that disengages the pawls on coasting. The freehub can spin backwards thus taking up the pedal kickback slack. https://www.tairinwheels.ca/product-page/silent-shogun-rear-hub It has 5.5 degrees of float before engagement so less slop than OChain and without the sponge feel of an Onyx. Not many of them in the market yet for feedback.

They use a sprag clutch and that's how they work. And they are heavy.

He designed it with a higher pivot......and a larger chainring (38-40t) so anti-squat/pedal kickback values are kept normal without using an idler.

Yes. This video of theirs is much usefull as it shows the mechanism disengages pawls. Genuinly clever idea. The length of freecoasting is amazing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CxdqbPUPgUm/ The mechanism I saw just a few days works the same way - there's triangular plate that pushes into pawls by its rotations and make them pop down from engangement position hence preventing them from engagement.

It is crazy that they aren't promoting these benefits more. I spoke to them at the Works in Progress show back in June and chain growth/pedal kickback wasn't even mentioned so I walked away thinking it was just another silent hub concept.

Isn't it an 8t? Also, not a pulley, it's the electric motor drive sprocket! A whole different thing 😜 Also sprag clutches are spongy due to their design, the forces in the sprags are high and they deform quite a bit. And because of the leverage ratio that's very noticeable on the pedals. Kinda like the sponginess of the front brake vs. the rear brake (a longer hose in the rear takes up more lever throw to deform).
