Of course I recognize this, and Richie already raced the Podium back in Finale this year. https://www.pinkbike.com/photo/28138500/ Maybe he just was winging it at Finale and is being more calculated? Maybe he didn't actually like it (its possible). Maybe he just wants more time? I honestly don't know, but again, this idea he couldn't race it or had no time doesn't appear true. This goes with my hypothesis that we're in a plataue of mountain bike technology. Though it may be possible to make something different, making something notably better on the race track is hard.

I think that's a fair assessment. I know of a few DH riders that didn't like the new forks when they came out, specifically the new Boxer, but we're forced to run it. I hate being a weight weenie, but day 1 was like 1900m of climbing and day 2 2200m, maybe he didn't want to lug the extra weight...

I think the crux of issue is this though, why are manufacturing jobs more desirable than service jobs? The current zeitgeist is that smashing steel is somehow better than shifting through spreadsheets. When you do first year economics you get taught the valid accepted reasons for protectionism, and the ones that apply here are: infant industry; protecting a new industry...
Not to say you should definitely go buy it, but you have to remember that racers use what they are comfortable with, as they are going to smash into a corner at warp speed and just want a consistent feeling. Swapping to a fork they've had what, a month or two on for a major race is a big question...

The reason for this is obvious though, factory floor workers have seen a declining wage premium over the last twenty years. The blue collar jobs are more decentralized and less unionized that the "golden era" of US manufacturing. Simply put, the US does not have a competitive advantage in manufacturing, and it has a lower medium wage than other non...

I hate that this is the case, but even in bigger sports they don't care. Look at tennis, Zverev beat up not one but two partners and zero reprimand. Formula 1, the Horner situation. There's so many instances of this in the top tier of sports in the world and nothing happens.

The burden of proof is on the claimant, you are claiming flex stays are creating increased axle movement due to the extra flex, therefore you must be the one to present the data. Your exact claim is, because i said so, my ass can feel it. There are experienced engineers here telling you they haven't seen it in making real...

Zertz isn't designed to be a deformation zone, it's a rubber insert design to lower the natural frequency of the stay to reduce vibrations felt by the rider. Road bikes experience a high (ish) frequency vibration from the constant loading unloading of the tires going over not perfectly smooth road (and a low frequency vibration of power being applied in...

You are so lost in the sauce. Like 4 different people gave great explanations of how flex stays work and you dismissed every single one, but want a "data driven discussion" when you can't comprehend a literal Microsoft paint diagram. Now you don't like "buzzy undamped coil spring", this is comedy gold. @CascadeComponents Can i formally apologize for this member...

We spent so much time worrying about pedal kickback that we didn't stop to consider pedal kickforward

Regardless of whether any given frame member is in tension or compression, for the flex stay to move as a joint in the suspension the shock must also move. Thinking about it as a torsion spring, if you say at full compression the spring is wound up its maximum amount, for it to unwind the shock must extend. The extension of the shock is controlled by rebound damping so the unwinding of the torsion spring is also controlled by that rebound damping

Agreed on all counts. If it's repeatable, it's as valid as it can be, but it's not a very meaningful target in itself, it's a byproduct of having the necessary spring rate for the loads you put on the bike and the ride quality you're looking for. Worrying about the precision of the sag measurement like that is utterly pointless if you're ignoring the factors that actually matter when selecting spring rates. On that note, we have a few different ways that we calculate spring rates for the Telum on any given frame (tuninghub.vorsprungsuspension.com) - if you know what you...

Your onto something, but I just refuse to believe that someone wearing an all white kit, googles and half shelf, with a hip pack, on a DH bikes, knows much of fuck all. Jokes and fashion aside, Rulezman is a knowledgeable dude, and I appreciate what he brings to the sport, but this is just totally unnecessary. The absolute best...

well Joe Breeden hadn't had a top 20 result since 2021 and this season so far hasn't been out of the top 20. Tuhoto is looking faster but just needs to keep it between the tape. He has made all the finals except Poland where he was 21st in qualies after not making any last year.

That's fair, I did see Oli won. In the mens elites though none of the belt drive riders are doing particularly well this season, and potentially worse than where they were last season. At the end of the season ill collect the data and look at average gaps and finishing times from non-belt to belt-drive athletes to see if the...

Doing the work! So interesting, thanks for the data. I was convinced to try Ochain after your awesome review of it, and it improves my ride quality, so I can see why the pros won't some of the special sauce, anything that helps.
