SteveClimber Added a reply to John Hall (Gwin's Mechanic) on Spoke Tension
3/18/2023 7:31pm all 4 strings don't support the weight equally, The force in the middle string is equal and opposite to the force in the 3 outer strings, its slightly hard to vizualise on this setup, with what i'll call a 3 string setup its a bit more obvious. Part of the reason world cup riders use low spoke tension is they...

3/17/2023 4:41pm A way to think about it is that you want the perpendicular force on the rim to be even left and right (i.e the force on the rim pulling it left and right across the ground). To acheive this due you HAVE to have different spoke tension on drive side and non-drive side. If you take any hub diagram, because...

3/15/2023 3:15pm Yes lacing patern has a noticeable effect on wheel stiffness, the only problem is that due to large discs anything other than 2x or 3x can result in broken spokes since the angle of the force applied to the spoke during drive or braking is too high (imagine a 223m rotor with a radial spoke pattern, the force will be...

3/11/2023 4:57pm Most people don't understand how much pro teams replace parts during a season. Its a fresh set of wheels for every race.

3/9/2023 12:38am Just slacken the head angle and adjust reach and stack and lower standover, its all anyone else is doing really. The suspension platform is solid, it doesn't need to change, just like all the horst link bikes out there.

3/6/2023 3:12pm My bad, I heard from WC mechanics that the new SD was co-designed by a former Fox employee, disregard.

3/6/2023 2:06pm Yes, it is better overall. DHX shocks cannot provide adequate damping without a custom tune, have reliability issues and Fox's SLS coil springs last just over a season of hard riding, meaning you need a new spring almost every season. The 2023 SD Ultimate is designed by a former Fox engineer funnily enough, so it has a few quirks, I'm...

3/4/2023 6:20pm Not to through shade on Trinity, but a lot of the cost will be from "wasted" devlopment time as well, you could see with their first few iterations that they were trying to reinvent the wheel a bit, as opposed to taking accepted and perfectly functional ideas and just implement it on their frame geometry (specifically about bearing seating and...

2/28/2023 11:11pm 2023 Super Deluxe, is ok, but not great. The HBO addition is nice, (but ultimately not that important) but unfortunately now changing high speed compression changes rebound, which is very suboptimal. In short, they reinvented the wheel, when the 2022 is a better product when it comes to compression and rebound damping, all to implement HBO, which wasn't needed that...
