12/2/2023 4:09pm Very disappointing, I would be quite tempted to get this, but 55mm is just not enough to provide adequate damping on a 170mm travel frame.

11/25/2023 8:51pm Thats a great idea for a straight line testing. I guess relevant to racing though its all about cornering speed, I personally cant think of an easy test jig to simulate cornering grip. I did think of just finding a berm and death gripping into it with different tyres repeatably and measuring exit speed

11/25/2023 6:12pm There is also that DT swiss test they did a while back about climbing efficiency, and how somewhat paradoxically low pressures tyres are more efficient at climbing in XC (due to weird spring force of climbing over obstacles?) that actually was a scientific paper. Compound should make the biggest difference Id love to find a way to do a fresh...

11/24/2023 8:46pm Theyre very good, super softs aren't great value (expensive and fast wearing, go figure, but it should be pointed out), honestly the main complaint is they're too square on 30mm+ rims, some may like that, others wont. Honestly, seating is fine, but i also got use to Michelin DH34 bike parks (wire bead) so comparatively their easy. In a hot...

11/24/2023 5:36pm I did consider this as well, a roll test could be more efficient if you can mitigate the change in wind resistance from body position.

11/24/2023 3:51pm I very very occasionally ride in snow (Hobart local here, so once or twice its cold enough) but I've got friends in PNW that rave about certain rubber and tyre combos for cold weather riding (in particular the Michelins become rock hard (iirc?) around freezing). I wonder if there is any noticeable change in tyre warmup so to speak, I...

11/24/2023 2:30pm Feel like winching up a fire road and swapping 5 sets of tyres for us, for science!

11/23/2023 3:40pm I also think a lot of tyres are too square for 30mm rims, the new conti's have such a square tread, it only slows you down on climbs, I personally favour a rounder profile, gives better grip when cornering, maximizing traction when the bike is perfectly upright isn't a priority

11/23/2023 1:48pm In my opinion an underrated part of tyre talk is matching tyre and wheel stiffness, soft tyres and stiff rims means burping and ripping off carcases, as the tyre moves and deforms but the rim tracks true in the terrain. Stiff tyres flexy rims means lack of grip. Its about finding the balance. The PB review of the new Berd...

11/16/2023 3:05pm It's hard to get exact figures as it's split across so many different markets, but when you look at things TdF Femmes got 4.3 million viewers in France for one stage (https://www.bicycling.com/news/a44735705/tour-de-france-femmes-viewersh…), and the TdF consistently is one of the highest rated sporting events in euro markets (also Aus) each year, yet despite all this, the teams and the TdF...

11/15/2023 5:46pm Not really, in fact not at all. Most of the streaming companies are up shit creek currently, netflix amazon and apple are the only ones breaking even. With interest rates likely to stay higher for longer than expected all the companies are well and truly in trouble. It's always been curious how cycling, one of the most watched sports in...

11/12/2023 1:41am I would be intrigued to see if you could actually see the difference in telemetry from clutch on/off, or is just a placebo affect.

11/11/2023 6:04pm It's been a while since I've done suspension kinematic deep dives, and i might be totally wrong here but in the rumors thread, people were arguing anti-squat doesn't matter at 50% travel as you won't be pedaling there, but anti-squat CAN and often is a proxy for pedal kickback and chain force on the suspension. So if you have a...

11/11/2023 5:48pm Well the tech rumors thread keeps getting derailed and I like kinematics as much as anyone else so figured I’d start a thread on it. First off, there is some personal preference here and there certainly isn’t a one size fits all solution to bike suspension. So no one is necessarily wrong, they just might like their bike to behave differently. For example I don’t like bikes with low anti rise because I find the rear extends too much under super heavy braking or creeping into steep chutes for my liking. But I know a lot of people out there...
