12/20/2023 2:42pm That's super neat, a great innovation! it would shield my derailleur from 80% of the strikes on the side of it

12/17/2023 10:33pm To be fair they haven't realesed the product yet, so I think its justifiable to not have any information on it. It is a growing trend in the industry though, quite a few brands are now not publishing detailed suspension data, Atherton and We are One come to mind, neither of their bikes post leverage curves, anti-squat graphs etc.

12/17/2023 5:20pm Yeah this is a great perspective. If you don't have a 160mm airspring i wouldn't go buy one to test it, just swap the flip chip and if you really notice it, then you could consider it. Just do some tests with air pressure, run 30% sag at your 170/170 setup and then try it at 25% sag and see...

12/17/2023 5:17pm The way to think about "how much travel you need" is how much you need to pump on your rides. People talk a lot about climbing, but in most scenarios more or less suspension travel doesn't make a huge difference in climbing performance (ceteris paribus). What is noticeable is pumping up and down on your bike to accelerate like you would on a pumptrack. People on rough and steep trails tend to let the bike do more of the work, whereas riders on lower speed, flatter, or rolling terrain tend to use a lot more body english on the bike...

12/17/2023 12:27am The only question is really if you find it too slack at 170, which it may well be at like 62.5 head angle or whatever that would come out at with a 170 fork. If the answer is no, then just run higher pressures when you want it to behave more responsively, and lower pressures when you want to smash...

12/7/2023 4:06pm Dreadnought L (S3) is; 446 chainstay, 1281 wheelbase, +16mm at sag, so 462, 1297, FC/RC of 1.80 at max its 476, 1311 wheelbase, FC/RC of 1.75 So overall the Supernought will be more FC/RC balanced than the dreadnought, obviously riders prefer different styles and the suspension itself is somewhat polarizing. But given those ratios you can say its a long...

12/7/2023 3:39pm Actually its not as bad as it seems at all The S3 has a 460 chainstay and 1295 wheelbase (im assuming the reported numbers aren't at sag values) At sag, that gives a 480 chainstay and 1315 wheelbase, giving a front centre of 835, and a FC/RC ratio of 1.74 At maximum length it has a 34mm extension of the...

12/7/2023 2:28pm Im still annoyed that DH frames that can fit waterbottles dont come with the mounts, makes park laps so much more enjoyable not being thirsty in the heat. Also, holy rear centre length batman! S3 has a 460 rear centre BEFORE sag, that is one long as rear end.

12/6/2023 5:43pm Trek did the same strategy in Australia. They bought quite a few stores and rebranded them to Trek stores, and obviously got rid of the other brands, this sparked a huge war with Giant, who then fought back and yada yada. Its not going very well for Trek down here now.

12/5/2023 11:22pm The brake system literally runs through the ECU, to modulate the hydraulic pressure to maximize KERS recovery at the rear wheels under braking, that is brake by wire. Just because a human leg is providing the force for the hydraulic system (which it always will in F1, because free energy), doesn't make it not brake by wire. [QUOTE]Now though, with...

12/5/2023 9:45pm F1 has been brake by wire for a long time now, so the technology is relatively well developed. Quite a few cars are drive by wire, i believe the new Porsche 911 (991 version) has electronic steering. The real question is, why do electronic breaking on a bike, it can provide ABS, packaging? Tuneability?

12/2/2023 6:51pm Just not riding fast enough then haha. Even in cold conditions fork and shocks warm up quite a bit, and in normal conditions on a 4minute run shocks can seriously overheat, off the top of my head, some of the shocks at Val de Sole hit 160c at the finish line. I think forks wouldn't warm up nearly as much...

12/2/2023 4:09pm Very disappointing, I would be quite tempted to get this, but 55mm is just not enough to provide adequate damping on a 170mm travel frame.

11/25/2023 8:51pm Thats a great idea for a straight line testing. I guess relevant to racing though its all about cornering speed, I personally cant think of an easy test jig to simulate cornering grip. I did think of just finding a berm and death gripping into it with different tyres repeatably and measuring exit speed

11/25/2023 6:12pm There is also that DT swiss test they did a while back about climbing efficiency, and how somewhat paradoxically low pressures tyres are more efficient at climbing in XC (due to weird spring force of climbing over obstacles?) that actually was a scientific paper. Compound should make the biggest difference Id love to find a way to do a fresh...

11/24/2023 8:46pm Theyre very good, super softs aren't great value (expensive and fast wearing, go figure, but it should be pointed out), honestly the main complaint is they're too square on 30mm+ rims, some may like that, others wont. Honestly, seating is fine, but i also got use to Michelin DH34 bike parks (wire bead) so comparatively their easy. In a hot...

11/24/2023 5:36pm I did consider this as well, a roll test could be more efficient if you can mitigate the change in wind resistance from body position.

11/24/2023 3:51pm I very very occasionally ride in snow (Hobart local here, so once or twice its cold enough) but I've got friends in PNW that rave about certain rubber and tyre combos for cold weather riding (in particular the Michelins become rock hard (iirc?) around freezing). I wonder if there is any noticeable change in tyre warmup so to speak, I...

11/23/2023 3:40pm I also think a lot of tyres are too square for 30mm rims, the new conti's have such a square tread, it only slows you down on climbs, I personally favour a rounder profile, gives better grip when cornering, maximizing traction when the bike is perfectly upright isn't a priority
