3/29/2024 7:05am The best explanation of SI I've heard (or visualised) is that it's a "DW"/VPP/Dual link design, where the bottom link is infinitely long (since it can't rotate at all). Which since it can't rotate, forces that oscillation in movement through the travel of the sliding part.

3/29/2024 12:13am The DH bike is a 6 bar. So that's something new at least. And they're XC bike is a flex pivot. So maybe they're not as tied to switch infinity as we once thought

3/28/2024 3:06am You'd all be better off doing pushups, squats in the gym or actual training drills on the bike than worry about 10mm in reach For a 10mm reach increase on a 1250mm wheelbase (445 chainstays) we're talking about a change in weight bias of 1.81 to 1.83 or or 1.1% so for a 80kg rider an increase of approx 1kg...

3/24/2024 8:21am First, it's not "xenophobic" to try to avoid buying MIC goods if the issue is philosophical and political. China is our enemy, Xi is an authoritarian communist who commits genocide. It was a horrible mistake to partner with China and offshore our manufacturing to them in the first place. Second, Taiwan and China are not the same country despite what Xi thinks. There's a MASSIVE difference between the two and if you won't buy Taiwanese goods then that may have an underlying xenophobic reason. Last, Lewis is a direct rip off of another company's IP. Not everyone is ok with...

3/23/2024 6:44am In the spirit of this thread I took that great idea and invented a new rim with no spoke holes on the outside circumference, instead we've bonded the nipples inside the rim permanently via a washer (so it can spin) so the nipples are permanently fixed to the rim and simply insert your spoke and away you go. No rim...

3/23/2024 12:19am When you look at how much revenue the large MTB companies make and how much they pay out in sponsorship and endorsement etc etc to all pros in the sport (DH XC Slooestyle) it's very very sad. A lot of the larger component companies are around the 500m revenue a year. This is a massive industry, why aren't the pros...

3/22/2024 9:56am The force required to compress the suspension is magnitudes higher than the diesel required to bunch the fabric up. It wouldn't make any difference. They're definitely more aero though, wonder if they get banned on those grounds.

3/21/2024 10:50am This looks incredible. Bravo rocky. Wonder if its just a normal vpp or they're are a bunch of funky flip chips etc.

3/21/2024 2:46am We should draw up a table of things that are constant, and convince Scott or any of the other egregious firms (like all the road bikes) that there is hidden performance behind ditching these antiquated standards. Like why are we still using Allen bolts for everything, surely we can swap to Torx or even better Square safety heads. Forget pedals...

3/19/2024 9:54am I liked his points, but the summation is a bit harsh overall. We won't find out the real reason I don't think. But he is correct that the Pivot design has a few flaws: 1. Same join angle for top and down tube 2. Bend in the downtube 3. Single lap joint between tubes and lug Those are true, and...

3/19/2024 9:48am Naw, it’s a fundamentally flawed design and manufacturing process (in terms of composites engineering), from what I can see from their prototype manufacturing pictures, as well as from Kerr’s broken frame pictures — in my opinion. Also, the fact that something is a prototype doesn’t mean that it’s permissible to utilize a dangerously designed / engineered / manufactured product, which could result in the substantial impairment or death of an athlete. The first flaw is the straight-insertion of the top tube AND the down tube into the lug, at the same draw angle. As such, if the bond isn’t perfect...

3/18/2024 2:36pm It was the V4's I was referring to. Here's a fun fact, the original Sram centreline rotors would only last 1-2 race runs before they were too thin to be safely used again. Which was a case of bad design, and teams would order 160 rotors for a season haha. But yeah, shit brakes, brand don't get it right all...

3/18/2024 2:16am Glue and metal works fine. A key problem is that even the best made frames get destroyed during a WC season. Most riders go through 3-4 frames in a season. Neko cracked 12 of his frameworks bikes in his first full season. The commencal DH bike would barely last a quali run alone before cracking haha

3/17/2024 11:01am Good to see they're sticking with double lapped lugs on the new frame. I'm glad the mentioned forging, I was wondering if you could cast the parts and then machine the surfaces after, but I guess getting quality high resolution casts is such a niche thing anyway it was probably just as expensive for lower quality

3/17/2024 10:52am Yeah that's what I thought, whereas the assembly process for the Atherton's you see them fix the head tube to the jig and slide in the top and down tube individually then slowly do all the other joints in a bit of a jigsaw like fashion.

3/17/2024 6:49am Could the fact that the Pivot head tube has both joins at almost a parallel angle be an issue? I.e if you pull directly away from the frame with the head tube it literally can slide off. Whereas the Atherton frame has the top tube and downtube meet at an angle at the head tube (obviously they don't actually meet...

3/15/2024 10:13am Yes they're DW4 aka VPP aka DW Link etc etc. It's to save costs, less links, less bearing, so also cheaper servicing which is great. They should ride similar to all other short dual link bikes, so peppy and playful (compared to horst link).

3/10/2024 12:14am This is my.point exactly. You pay £5000 for an Atherton frame, and they don't include suspension data, meaning independent tuning is harder (but obviously not impossible). Also LinkageX3 is fine for horst-links etc but for 6 link and VPP/DW bikes you have to be very accurate taking measurements (I don't have the equipment to do so) making it even harder...
