8/8/2023 4:13am I think the Demo Proto is a four bar with the pull link to drive the shock, so you get that sexy S shaped leverage curve and they can still get their axle path and anti rise they like. I'm not sure why theyve kept it hidden for so long, does it really matter that much? Or is it because...

8/7/2023 3:59am Its funny you mention that, as that custom kit Nigel (NSR) made was the one I was specifically refering to, and the team got told they are not allowed to do that, and were forced to change. But yes, this will be my last post on this subject. Again, go have some beers with mechanics, youll learn a lot.

8/7/2023 3:55am For the record I never said they were slow, they just dont have a lot of damping, which is why the specialized bikes look so composed, as Ohlins products are capable of a factor more damping than Fox, and also because they let them run specilized internals, and the demands of Loic Bruni is a lot more than any normal...

8/6/2023 7:11pm They offer custom tunes, but it is still the stock product just modified (although I dont specifically know about what Greg gets, just some of the aussie riders and frenchies). The fact is that the WC teams are run from marketing budgets from their sponsors, they are not allowed to modify or run a totally different product, they use what...

8/5/2023 11:14pm Their suspension is more composed than the other teams, as Ohlins have no issue giving them whatever they ask for, whereas all the other teams (Fox and Rockshox) have to run stock product and only adjust pressure, damping clicks etc. So Ohlins can run lots of damping with custom tuning, whereas everyone else can just max out the clicks. Thats...

8/2/2023 10:32pm Yeah quite a few prototype frames use eccentric BB cups and a smaller spindle during test to fine tune, in fact Bruni ran one on the production Demo for a couple years. I don't imagine anyone will make a bike with an oversize BB and press in eccentric cups that you can then mount standard BBs into anytime soon, but...

8/2/2023 4:42pm unfortunately its very unlikely to release a bike with that, its simply way too heavy and too costly to manufacture. The best we could hope for is an oversized BB fitted with eccentric cups that can be used to adjust, much simply, lighter and cheaper at mass production

8/1/2023 3:52pm older bikes often had very high spring rates, then we learnt that having spring and damper forces closer together is much better performance wise The real problem with 55mm stroke shocks on enduro bikes is the lack of damping force, ive got a GT Force with a 55mm shock and its the one problem with it, spring force is fine.

6/20/2023 6:56pm Pull linkages can produe the "best" levarage curves, beautiful S shaped high progression for off the top to mid stroke support to high progression for bottom out. In the wrong hands they are terrible, ala Focus' disgusting leverage curves that we wont talk about. Considering how closesly they work with Ohlins, if i wouldn't be suprised if they suggested a...

6/16/2023 5:13pm What is the difference between a DW6 with the Pivot on the chainstay or seat-stay?? I don't have linkage software to model it

6/11/2023 10:49pm Yeah my mistake, I was confusing the terminology of Horst Link and four bar. Correct, it could be considered a virtual four bar system.
SteveClimber Added a reply to MTB Tech Rumors and Innovation
6/11/2023 5:21pm Its definitely not a four bar linkage. The chainstay is attached via two links are therefore has a virtual pivot point for where the "main pivot" would be, the seat stay will flex, meaning if anything, you could argue its a linkage driven "single pivot" where the single pivot is actualy a floating virtual pivot point.

6/9/2023 5:58pm Thanks for that, confirms there is a flex stay in there for us!

6/8/2023 6:02pm I think the 3 bolts on the BB are Bruni's eccententric BB that he has used for a while Chriskief linked the PB shots of them using it on the old demo. From the shots so far its clearly just a Horst Link with an interesting rocker design to tune the shock rate, unless the "main" pivot by the BB...

5/27/2023 11:19pm I've no doubt you can ride heavy bikes quick. But were not talking about quick here, were talking about being the fastest in the world. DH is incredibly physical, having to lug extra weight around does not make the job easier, once the bike weighs enough to be stable and predictable, anything above that is just making the riders job...

5/27/2023 7:13pm The Intense HP6 only has "1/2" a link more than a normal Horst Link DH bike, the link driving the shock from the chainstay pivot, because the normal rocker link terminates at the seat-tube junction, where as normally on a horst link bike that will drive the shock as well. The extra weight of the Intense is because the seat...

5/26/2023 6:08pm I don't know what everyone is worrying about, they'll get at least 4 runs before qualifying, thats heaps. I only need 2 for my local races.

5/15/2023 4:18pm its all relative, stack height, how high your running the fork all matter as well. As a rule of thumb, don't place huge emphasis on what pro's run, they want a setup they are use to and is consistent for them, because they are going to go into a corner or berm at insane speed and just want the predictability...
SteveClimber Added a reply to Hayes Dominion Brake Pads
4/26/2023 1:15am I would say get the Hayes pads, i've been running the same set of metallics in the rear for at least a year, on my TRP's I would go through 2-3 sets in year. My calculation is that they end up cheaper for me even though they cost 2.2times more, they are lasting 3 times longer than comparable pads.
