3/8/2024 11:13pm I hope they're a bit more transparent and release the suspension data/graphs with this frame. Pretty disappointing with their DW6 bikes for the price they cost they don't release the leverage graphs etc.

3/2/2024 6:41am Bigger pistons doesn't equal more power is kinda the answer here. The other part is that sram is mass manufacturing these parts, so theryre designed with a lot more variance in production and therefore heavier, than much much smaller scale high end machining than trickstuff are doing. I honestly think all the big brand brakes are excellent currently, they're just...
SteveClimber Added a reply to What is the stiffest casing, what is the most pinch resistant tire?
3/2/2024 12:30am What is a really pinch resistant tire good for hard terrain with a high rolling speed. What is the stiffest casing between brands? Unfortunately stiff casings are slower rolling, so there is a trade-off here you can't avoid (the tyre consumes more energy deforming to trail as it's stiffer and therefore rolls slower). However running them at such high PSI...

3/1/2024 1:11pm Yeah fair. Who knows, some amount of yaw may even improve grip by allowing the wheel to move as a system as opposed to the tyre deforming so much. I guess it actually probably matters more on a "right side up" fork, as when you get yaw the bushings on one side is definitely going to cause some increased friction/binding...

3/1/2024 1:31am I haven't listened to the whole podcast yet, but I skimmed through it. What I want to know is how they addressed yaw-ing of the two tubes. A key issue of upside down forks in MTB is that because we use one side for a spring and one for a damper the amount of force required on each side to...

2/24/2024 11:48pm Very easy to saw as someone who hasn't tried to ride the black snake, or someone who is getting paid MTB rider/racer pay willing to risk everything for a 10th place nobody cares about. Let's risk these riders life who are on minimum wage just for me to feel good watching YouTube as it confirms my world view.

2/22/2024 8:07am The riders universally love the track and think it will make a great race track. Wales is its own thing, and I'd argue the actual race is kinda boring, as only 3 people are ever really up there, the gaps between positions is massive. It's so challenging and so few racers actually go there it kinda ends up being a...

2/20/2024 12:12am Different metals, different machines they're using. Only the first photo is raw before sanding. The finish looks largely the same, but I wouldn't be surprised that a company like this is using better machines than Atherton, considering they are a metal specialist and Atherton had to buy theirs, if that makes sense? The real problem with 3D printing is that...

1/25/2024 2:42pm UFC is an interesting one, as relative the amount of money UFC makes, the fighters make almost 0. Boxers make so much more money than UFC athletes its insane. The UFC has a stranglehold on who fights and where and how much they get paid, that any attempts to speak up/out are crushed and you lose all your income. Im...

1/25/2024 2:14pm But this is just plain incorrect. The simplest way I can explain it to you is this. Roll from a 10m hill down, you convert the gravitational potential energy into momentum, that energy is fixed. If you have 29" or 26" wheel do don't get more or less energy from rolling down the hill. Now once you have gained momentum...

1/24/2024 1:45pm One of us hasn't understood what Cascade said, and I'm inclined to think its you. The formula he wrote out clearly states In the end the radius of the wheel is not included in the energy equation. The larger wheel doesn't require more energy than a small one to brake. The reason it requires more force at the caliper is...

1/23/2024 10:47pm Science! Thanks Cascade! So to infer from this, a larger wheel requires more force at the caliper, but the brake system isn't actually dissipating more heat (as more energy isn't required). So the argument that 29" bikes are overheating brakes more just doesn't hold up

1/23/2024 10:11pm Yeah they've been on sale since 2020, just mis-labelled as a Fox 40, whatever that is

1/23/2024 9:38pm Does anyone know how to do the math of braking with different wheel sizes? Because to my mind, a 15kg Enduro bike, with an 80kg rider, slowing from 30-15km/h, the difference between a 26" and 29" wheel is surely going to be like 2-3% at MOST, compared to the total energy required to slow down a 95kg system by 15km/h...

1/21/2024 7:38pm From a source at Trek, China is literally carrying their entire bike sales (trek have a substantial amount of apparel and parts via bontrager etc) in 23 and projected to continue in 24 (which is surprising seeing the large Chinese downturn overall). It's just such an enormous market for them it is saving them from making layoffs across each region...

1/21/2024 7:35pm Three points I'm compelled to make here... 1) I don't disagree that when you factor in all your SG&A plus what certain brands were doing on a COGS basis to rush product to market that a 3 year snapshot of most companies will look upside down. I wouldn't put this squarely on the shoulders of "those in finance" however. Nobody has a crystal ball and lots of very smart people really did think COVID was going to create long lasting changes as to "how we all hang out". (not true - obviously). I'm not trying to save face for these...

1/20/2024 2:29am Yeah that's totally fair. I ride at Maydena quite a bit (820m top to bottom) and the brakes are cooked after doing long runs, but i guess i'm just used to losing braking force by the bottom of the runs by now? Not sure if I notice it that much, over being absolutely knackered from 400m of chunder. How heavy...

1/19/2024 7:34pm Yeah, which is a pain the ass! One of my best mates works at a specialized dealer and half the time the bearings are absolutely toast and performance suffers because they can't be bothered doing it themselves (i.e owners) and its so expensive in shop to get the replaced when needed (particularly if you ride somewhere wet)

1/19/2024 6:22pm Peaty did that video riding a current V10 and a 2007 V10 and was 6 seconds slower at Pleney on a 3ish minute track? Obviously hes not elite top 30 fit anymore, but it gives an indication that its less than what you'd think.
