(Thursday 15th February 2024) –  The sold-out Red Bull Hardline Australia will take place 23-24th February, a few months before the event returns again to Wales’ Dyfi Valley on the 1st & 2nd June. For those watching from home, the event will be broadcast on Red Bull TV at 6pm AEDT time (which translates to 11pm PST).
unnamed-7
In the rugged terrain of Maydena Bike Park in Tasmania, over 30 riders from all over the world will tackle some of the most challenging mountain bike trails Australia has to offer. The course has been built over the past three months, using a team of 15 predominantly Tasmanian staff.

Course Fun Facts:
Track Length - 2.3km
Vertical elevation - 575m
Largest gap jump - 75ft / 23m
Largest vertical drop - 10m+
Estimated course race time - 3.5min
Highest elevation point - 925m above sea level
Geology on the course changes three times, resulting in different rock and soil types throughout the course.
Local flora includes; Eucalyptus Regnans (the world’s tallest flowering plant, and one of the world’s tallest trees- they grow up to and above 100m tall).

Simon French from Maydena Bike Park says ‘On the edge of Tasmania’s South West Wilderness, Maydena Bike Park has provided a perfect canvas for developing a course that is befitting of the Red Bull Hardline legacy.  Using nearly 600m of vertical elevation, the all-new course takes in a huge diversity of forest types, terrain and trail features.  After a massive few months of construction, we look forward to welcoming riders on course soon.’

New additions to the rider list include Edgar Briole (FRA), Vincent Tupin (FRA), Thibault Laly (FRA) and Jim Monro from the UK. And in the wild cards, Dennis Luffman will be added from the UK. Unfortunately, Gee Atherton will not attend and will continue to focus on his recovery in the UK.

Redbull TV cant even show the Hardline racing live. The RB TV "Live Event" starts at 6pm local Tasmanian time which is 1:30 hours after the racing is finished (scheduled to run from 1:00pm - 4:30pm).

This delay will give them time to edit the package for TV.

Imagine the hate if Discovery decided to delay the telecast of the WC to allow the editing team to do their job!!

looking at the POV of the track, the line of sight is so minimal for so much of the track that maybe a live feed just doesn't make sense. requiring too many cameras to cover it well?

here's a new track walk w/ bernard.

Was there not already enough hate for them last year when the entire Hardline race event was cancelled with the majority of people saying they should not limit it to a strict time-frame, but instead a window so the riders have the opportunity to race when they feel comfortable, in the event there is not ideal weather conditions??

I think there are people who will complain either way.

red bull's first hits video

re live vs. recorded - i'm not saying RB gets a pass b/c it's not live, just explaining why i think it may not be possible at this venue. it's a really long track too, considering how long that highway takes and how fast they're going.

Pretty safe to say Maydena Bike Park just cemented itself a place on the global stage - I reckon that world cup wont be too many years off.

Yeah I thought the same thing. The terrain and soil look super sick, and all the parts of the track that connect the ridiculous features look super fun.

"It takes approximately 28h 28m to get from France to Tasmania, including transfers."

I'll take the under on the down under WC DH race. No matter what the line is. Come on.

Maydena put their hand up to host another EDR/EWS and a DH Round in 2024 but was asked to focus on 2025 as many team budgets are maxed in 2024 and the cost of getting to Tasmania was going to push the friendship. Also traditionally the EWS came to NZ/Tasmania every second year so its not unheard of.

Tasmania Hardline track is 2.3km long, same as Snowshoe, Val Di Sole, Andora and others, Fort Bill is close to 3km. Granted there is less open sections to allow a panning shot.

I'm betting the highway section will be covered by a drone or rider GoPro at Hardline. A drone covered these sections at the world cups in 2023.

Key reason of the delayed telecast is to give the time to edit a nice package with riders getting a full race run without the issue a world cup currently has with multiple riders on track at the same time which makes it impossible to show full runs live.

The goal of showing live full run is what I understand Discovery wants hence heir goal to limit the finals to 20 male and 10 female riders and having 2-3 min long tracks which allows a longer start gap.

bernard's latest

@casey79 that's crazy that it's same length as snowshoe. in the vlogs/POVs it seems like it takes forever. i'm prob just stressed about each jump/gap coming up so it feels long. i also thought there was more track after the 75 footer and there isn't.

edit - HOLY CRAP jackson and laurie's POV! the speed, the blasting and that whip over the 75?!

They scrapped the jumps after what is now the last hit.

I can't get over how quickly it went from everyone trying to figure out each feature and the track appearing as this crazy, nearly unrideable thing to everyone just figuring it out and doing full runs. You can literally see the bar get raised in just a few days.

Highlight for sure has been all the women ticking off features. This will stand as a massive leap forward for the women's freeride scene and goes to show the level that their riding is at; they just need the chance to get their foot in the door.
