Dean seemed pretty stoked on the changes, the point about the bunting is an interesting one for the broadcast.

Unless someone has evidence of more 5Dev cranks snapping, I'm going to assume the line "that particular crank had an issue" is refering to that SPECIFIC crank which snapped, not the batch, and he is acknowledging that it failed catestrophically. I don't see any evidence of 5Dev doing anything wrong. A product failed, they offered a warranty or refund, the...

The damping on a Grip 2 is about the static friction of the seals on the fork. Less than ideal. It's strange that there isn't a consensus still about damping rates, some pro's still ride fully open, other on Ohlins have a magnitude more damping. Poor Fox DH riders just have to rely on the spring to hold them up...

Since were all going to be riding E-bikes in 5 years anyway just use the engine braking as the failsafe, have the chain always moving, and the minute you stop pedalling it will turn the motor at the cranks into a generator, recharging your battery and slowing you down. Want to go faster? Just pedal, the minute you stop pedalling...
Absolutely, I agree with all of this. I guess my main point is that as long as the spokes don't over tension or undertension during use, the important thing isnt the tension itself, but what type of spoke it is will determine the wheels characteristic (assuming the same rim)
I watched the park tool spoke tension video, super super interesting. The whole "hub hangs from the spokes" view of a wheel is totally wrong. Its clear the wheel is a system, and when statically loaded (i.e just standing on the bike) the rim WILL flex at the bottom, dropping spoke tension on those spokes (since the ERD has reduced)...
WT. Yes, I was previously runing 511's and got recommended to switch to 471's, I took some photos and measurements of the tyre shape when I swapped over, i'll try to find them, but essentially the same tyre is a bit more "round" than a 30mm rim, which I prefer, It leans into corners better and I find gives better...

Sorry, but who is paying Commencal to use headset cable routing? Big headset? Local bike shops to charge more for servicing? Total garbage lol. Its done for looks to the average joe, and its cheaper production.
Currently running DD maxxis 2.4's and friends on the same wheels are running the new Conti's in both Enduro and DH with great success, no punctures over summer riding season. I've also run the Schwalbe Super Gravity before with good success, I just like trying different tyres and based on pricing and availability in Aus
I highly recommend using DT Swiss revolution (2.0 - 1.5) if you're running aluminium rims, I've found theyre the best spoke for EX471's. My theory (stolen from other mechanics) is that you should be looking to harmonize the wheel as a system, there is no point having a very stim carbon rim, with thin low tension spokes and exo tyres...

Finally got around and through the topic, so yeah, late to the party. My 2 cents (haven't built a lot of wheels, haven't tested things out much, only thought some details through) and I think most of it has been covered as well. The wheel for sure hangs from the top spokes, no way around it. The spokes we use, the way they are laced, do not give a compressive support, so the bike is carried by the top spokes. What the bottom spokes do give is stability though. Spoke tension shouldn't give much of an impact on wheel stiffness...

Thats actually a good idea, Size and position makes sense. I haven't seen somebody use them before on a MTB, wouldn't the front one need to be on the lower leg though (mounted to the unsprung mass)

I doubt its an inerter, its not connect to the lower legs, so only way it could be if its a oil based j-damper (McLarens code for their original oil based inerter) running of the airpsring shaft somehow, way too complicated. I think it could be there to monitor the airspring pressures for telemetry (explains why its bolted to air...

Talking to the pros at the race the biggest difference wasn't hown town advantage, its the fact that the aussies have been riding all summer long and are in good shape. Jesse was snowed in 2(?) weeks before he left, he barerly got decent bike time. All the euro bike parks are closed still, BC had super late snow, American...

A few of the riders are surprised that Maydena is steeper than they thought, most people hadn't ridden here (Jack obviously has) but its much steeper than Derby and a lot rougher over all. Maybe Jack has gone the "plush" setup for his hand?

He's guessing its a spool valve from the handlebar remote Loic has. A spool valve makes sense functionally as it literally just diverts the oil flow to a different outlet. The reason why I don't think there is a spool valve in there, is because how do they fit an entirerly different compression damping setup in that shock to divert...

The only part i would be worried about is bending the actual mount, i know people are standing on it, but getting hit with a rock at high spend can bend it, does AXS have a system where the motor can adjust the indexing? The new Meta was in a Pinkbike photo shoot with non headset cable routing, weird.
