I love that chris Canfield is dropping weird bikes all the time now . Titanium DH bikes with gearboxes ? I’m Here for it.

There are quite a few bikes where apparently ST could be just “kept straight” after all the pivot points down to the bb area, so I find your points reasonable but not absolute Smile To me it still seems as “form over function” approach, unless I’m missing some subtle technical details (which is actually very much possible)

I could give this a go, would back to back race sim laps be enough to provide accurate results? At least in a way that it is consistently one way or the other?

Slow clap. Part of the reason why road bikes came with 19-23mm tires pumped up to 120+ psi is because they felt faster than bigger or softer tires, and because of flawed test methodology (testing tires on smooth steel drums in a lab vs. testing on real asphalt). I've heard a lot of people in the tire forum say that radials roll slower, and they certainly might. But until I see actual test results using a methodology that makes sense, I'm going to assume that no one knows the answer to that question.

The average rider does care about efficiency, most just don't know how to articulate it. They talk about the bike feeling slow, or that they're working really hard on climbs, and making improvements to how efficient the bike is (mostly by going to faster rolling, lighter weight tires since most are on traditional drivetrains) makes a huge difference to their ride experience. Can't forget the average rider isn't smashing wheels and ripping off derailleurs all the time, and shouldn't build their bikes up like a lot of us do.

Single speed is still relevant really. Like racing rally locally and drinking beers on the podium. Or just having a big day out alone. Stripped down to nothing but the machine and the quads. Shits brilliant. Wonder when we see some really shiny new single speed drops. Trek used to have one every year. But why wait for the big corpo trash when you can just take all The batteries and crap off your bike throw a Melvin or reverse on there and go get after that shit ???

On the Downtime Podcast, Chris Hall, Neko Mulally, and Olly Morris were speculating that Specialized can give just that little extra support. They only have so much budget to allocate, and when Loic is on the box every week, it makes sense to try and keep him there. Also, Jordan and Finn have both independently said that their mentality just sort of clicked this year. Finn finally got a strong training offseason this year after chronic pain in years previous. He then got the confidence to know he could do it. Jordan said he had some mental struggles previously, even...

This is so true. I can deal with a bike that's too small, too big, or has funky geo but one an invasive standover is an absolute no-go for me.

Maybe this isn't an accurate point of view, but I feel like pedal MTBs and e-bikes aren't really trying to solve the same problems. I think a pretty massive effort goes into the design of pedal MTBs so that they can be comfortably and efficiently pedaled, at least outside of DH-specific bikes. Even enduro bikes, especially those that are raced, need to pedal decently. For an e-bike, pedal performance is probably pretty far down on the list of design goals. I've watched a handful of folks with dead batteries or faulty electronics try to pedal their 50-lb beasts out of...

As a 6‘2 guy with long legs and BMX background, I find it awkward to ride bikes with high ST and shorter dropper. When I see a kink in a seat tube or a schock going through it, I instantly know the bike/frame is not for me. Btw, can someone tell me why not ALL seattubes (apart from those with...

How many root canal do I need to perform to be able to afford one ? Is the downtube storage called the floss box and if not why ? Is that turquoise Chris King headset stock on all build kits ? Is the LT 180mm dual crown compatible ? I am counting atleast 14 bearings counting the trunion one ? Is Yeti following SC and Spec footstep and giving out first owner free replacement bearing ? Single chainstay length on all size or they grow with frame size & the replaceable dropout give the option for longer chainstay. Most likely...

My thing is that I prefer having no more than 440 ST with 240 mm dropper fully slammed and with reach in 480-495 range. In a way it makes choosing a frame easier, as only handful of manufacturers have all this features combined. While we’re at it and considering how much MTB stuff costs, the looks also better be appealing...
One of the main reasons I haven’t considered a Yeti is because dropper insertion depth is (relatively) poor on Switch Infinity bikes. A kink in this new seattube is not giving me much hopes. And somehow new bike looks overall less stunning than SB160 did… Oh well

I typically use the climb switch once per ride. I like to turn it on halfway up the climb when I remember I have it and might as well use it. I tend to turn it off halfway down the descent when I’m puzzling over why my suspension isn’t working. I suspect I am not in the minority.

My guess is they’ll phase out the aluminum Reserve products to position Reserve as the premium product with a premium warranty. It would be a sneaky way to quietly stop offering a lifetime warranty/replacement on aluminum wheels too.

With the introduction of Hope’s new $2000 brakes I’m feeling increasingly correct in my assessment that the bike industry (or at least the western bike industry) is capitalizing on growing wealth inequality and is increasingly relying on a small constituency of rich fanboys* to keep the lights on, while increasingly high quality, low cost Chinese products capture the low dollar part of the market. *non-derogatory

Excuse my French, but could we fucking please stop calling bikes "analog", "acoustic", or -the worst I've heard- "bio"? Bikes are bikes. Ebikes are something else. Now get off my fucking lawn you punks!
