6/5/2026 3:33am Extremely hot take in the bad way lol. Marin makes awesome bikes, I regularly check them out. Transition as well, albeit a little spendier but also more dialed (imo). The only reason I don’t buy either is because I already own a 6 year old Norco that has given me zero reasons to spend money on a new bike,

6/5/2026 3:32am That's a hot take on things. A lot of us don't care if a bike is inside the box or outside it, we just want it to be a good time. Oh, and pretty much all mountain bikers are uncool. That's fine with me, I don't really like the cool people anyway.

6/3/2026 9:36am I have a '23 Smuggler and every time I get that "new bike" itch I end up asking myself why? The Smuggler isn't perfect but it's so damn good I can't convince myself a new bike is worth it (and I'm pretty darn good at finding reasons to justify a new bike). I suspect a lot of folks are in a similar situation...

6/1/2026 12:46pm Those 6 bar yeti bikes had reviewers gushing. I’ve had absolutely zero desire to try a switch infinity bike. If they follow through with 6bar non e-bikes I’ll be really trying to give them a shot.

5/28/2026 10:18am YT decoy x core range launched today with avinox. the bikes are considerably cheaper than competitors. i'm asking w/o trying to judge or throw shade...isn't this what got YT into trouble in the first place? how do they sell an X0 transmission/podium-equipped bike for 8500 euro ($9900 USD) when a similarly spec'd bike from other brands is in the 14k USD range and survive? i figure "this helps them get cash," but how much cash is left over after they pay for the cost of these bikes? 2nd question - would OE brands on these bikes need to be paid...

5/26/2026 12:44pm I think the issue is not being able to establish what the problem is because your riding isn’t consistent enough and therefore you don’t actually know what you are trying to fix. No one wants to try to problem solve a problem that they can’t even read. You shooting in the dark, unsure about the validity of potential solutions, and potentially don’t understand the complicated relationship between all the systems so you might actually end up fucking something up terribly. It’s not surprise many people don’t want to tinker.

5/26/2026 12:44pm Thinking of myself, I don't know that I'm that consistent of a rider yet. I'm similar to your friend in that I'm a musician and someone who isn't afraid to dive into the details of anything. I've been riding 3 years and I find myself a little too inconsistent in my riding to imagine bracketing to be a super useful practice. I feel like I'll get more out of trusting my bike and just learning to ride it better. If I were to guess, one of the things your friend and I might also have in common is that we...

5/24/2026 12:56pm This a common straw man argument I see on this topic. It’s important to remember that anyone capable of going that fast uphill is only do so with a lifetime of skills as a foundation . Anyone in a pro xco race is likely never putting out 1500w in that race, and if the are it’s for about 5 seconds during a sprint finish. Theres just a lot more nuance man. No human is putting out world tour sprint finish power for the same duration as a 800wh battery Humans are creatures of the path of least resistance. If you...

5/23/2026 3:29am Just so everyone is on the same page, a 20% progressive DH bike and a 20% progressive trail bike can be two very different suspension systems. Below are two theoretical bikes that both have the same starting leverage ratio and the same 20% overall progression. However, the leverage slopes are different, meaning the rate of change through the travel is different.

5/21/2026 11:24pm I recently read an article by the enduro mag. They made a survey and found out that 70% of their readers that took part in the survey never changed their rebound from what the bike came with. The amount of people riding bikes that dont have a clue about basic setup is very high. For them, something like the progression rate is not relevant. We are all so far off the average user that we are not who brands have to engineer their bikes for. https://enduro-mtb.com/performance-gap-das-dilemma-moderner-bikes/

5/20/2026 10:38pm Y’all are acting like bike financing (which is what leasing is, btw) is some brand-new idea. It isn’t. The basic tools have been around forever. In its most archaic form, its not all that different from opening a store card at your favorite big-box retailer. What bikes still lack is a real underwriting structure where the lender can tie the loan to the asset itself. When I finance a $100,000 truck, the bank holds the title until I pay it off. If I stop making payments, they can repossess the truck, sell it at auction, and recover at least some...

5/19/2026 11:04pm Not to totally rip off Bicycle Retailer but their home page is full of interesting stories I missed right now... -Amazon to stop selling e-bikes that exceed 28mph in CA (no more Surrons via Amazon) -Giant reports April sales (3%) -GoPro sale or merger being considered (how'd I miss this!? Wild! Insta360+DJI ate their lunch) -Leatt continues to crush; sales up 27% y/y in Q1. -Merida and Ideal sales down (14%) and (22%) respectively y/y

5/19/2026 4:10am I test rode a tallboy 6 over the weekend (5mi / 600' vert). It is really, really good. I have a ht4 that I love and I love vpp for longer travel bikes. I don't miss it on the new tallboy in the slightest. It goes uphill as well as the previous version with more traction when climbing square ledges and loose over hard... and goes downhill easily 30% better then the previous version. It is half way in between the tallboy 5 and my hightower 4 with regards to descending. Honestly, it's so good and so well rounded that...

5/19/2026 4:09am I remember back in the RideMonkey days (dating myself), there was an Evil Undead thread full of guys that loved the bikes but were having QC/warranty issues. Todd Seplavy (Ska Todd) chimed in and was very candid about that Shipment of Revolt frames. He said when they opened the shipping container, everything looked great. But as they pulled the frames out, the welds looked horrible. I think Todd even said they held a couple up to the Sun and could actually see light through some of the joints. They ended up tossing 70-80% of the frames from that container, a...

5/17/2026 12:22pm Whichever bike has the best damper tune specced probably wins at that point. I'm pretty sure that's a big deciding factor between bikes with different linkage designs also though. You would need control wheels, and tires at a minimum, and probably drivetrain also to get any useful data about which frame works better.

5/17/2026 12:21pm I’d love to see a shoot out of trail bikes using the same linkage designs. It would really interesting to start to dig a bit deeper as to what sets them apart - quality control, kinematics, maintenance, etc etc.
