A new take on front suspension tech I am experimenting with which could be a simple bolt on conversion. Specs: Fox 36 140mm travel with custom one piece Upright/fork crown. Girder fork type link suspension with Fox DPS shock giving 53mm travel. 193mm total travel. This system gives the front wheel two different wheelpaths....the more vertical of the Telefork and a more rearwards wheelpath of the Link suspension....each seperately tunable. A more dynamic range of change for offset and trail. This adds a third level of suspension compliance ( first being the tire...then the Telefork..then the link suspension ). I...

My one piece of advice for most riders to make their bikes less tiring and more forgiving is to speed up your rebound. Most mountain bikers run their rebound way too slow because they want to make the bike feel stable and predictable in the car park, but that means the suspension isn't able to move freely on trail. If your rebound is too slow, especially on your fork, your suspension will pack down into the harder part of the spring curve and beat up your hands and legs. Find a rougher track and open your rebound 3 clicks on...

Slight Box One vibes? Not the same in principle as Box lever was pushed in instead of rotated the other way, but yeah... Single lever nevertheless.

I know guys who say the exact opposite and your bars shouldn't be higher than your saddle. IMO its irrelevant and they shouldn't be compared. It is going to be affected by your specific combination of height, limb length, reach/stack and the relative proportions of each. I started bringing my bars higher a while ago, but I have proportionally long legs and arms so if I was to try bring them up above the seat it would mean siting bolt upright or stretching the front end out to a silly distance! Just go with whatever it takes to put your...

I can be interesting to look at Strava from time to time, but on the whole I think it has a decidedly negative impact - both on my riding experience and the mountain bike community as a whole. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the inaccuracy of the segment times and leader boards. I imagine there's not much overlap between people that pay much attention to leaderboards and people that do a serious amount of advocacy and trail work. But if you've ever used your phone as a GPS device in Avenza or a similar app, you know how...

There is a local dude here who uses a stem mounted wahoo, couple of GPS watches and an iphone and records them all on strava, each will have discrepancies which will ultimately give him one device with a best time (usually the phone) There was a rumor that on one trail, there is a tricky chute/corner at the end, he literally took the wahoo off and threw the thing to the end of the segment to skip the feature lol

get a xt shifter so you have the better performance, keep the derailleur. if you want the servo wave levers, just upgrad to deore ones, keep the caliper. ride the cassette till worn. use saved money to buy better suspension. profit.

What do you want to accomplish with your upgrades? What notable differences in the way the bike rides are you hoping to distinguish from the components you have now? From looking at the components on your bike and what you are looking to upgrade to, it seems like you are just spending money to say you have nicer, more upscale, expensive components. Here is a good article breaking down some of the difference in Shimano groupsets and the actual difference in feel, which is almost indistinguishable. https://nsmb.com/articles/xtr-vs-deore-can-you-tell-difference/ Some of the most worthy upgrades to make to a bike that will...

Nope, there is dick all time between racers as it is, F1 need to conserve tires and fuel and change the balance of the car during the race, what is a DH rider going to conserve or adjust in there 3 min run? They are going as hard as they can anyway so what's knowing a split going to matter? Mic the riders up during practice if you want entertainment

Why does the warranty have to be transferrable? Why not just... be? What makes the original buyer so much more holy than any other person owning the bike at a later date to deserve a full warranty when others don't deserve it? I've never heard of something like this in the electronics industry (phones, PCs, etc.), we know it's not an issue with cars, Jeff mentioned it's not a thing with snowmobiles and motorbikes and so on, what makes bikes so special?

Sell higher is a theoretical example that was actually a reality in a lot of fields during the pandemic - bikes, scalped GPUs, cars. Not to mention limited edition cars, but there's an investor bubble in that field now. Still... Your car has the factory warranty regardless if it's certified preowned or not. This I know for a fact as i was in a position where the warranty was transferred to me by a dealer doing the last in-warranty service and putting me down as the owner for recall purposes. Exactly my question, why does the company care about the...

There was an interesting post by @bulletbass man in our 2024 team rumors forum thread about what new bikes and what bike brands are offering lately. Short version - bikes are so good these days that gimmicks and/or tiny performance improvements aren't enough to warrant a new bike purchase. bulletbass' suggestion to get more sales is that brands should improve the mountain bike ownership experience with free service/maintenance plans or parts warranties. this idea is really intriguing, so i wanted to throw out on its own to see what you all think. bullet's original post below I think bike companies...

Can we come back to reality a bit? It's true that mountain bike sales and outdoor sales in general are down right now, but mountain biking and outdoor activity in general are as popular as they've ever been, other than a totally insane, unsustainable, and impossible to replicate 24-month window during Covid where no one had jobs. Go to any trailhead and you will find that bikes, hiking, backpacking, you name it, is more popular than ever and demand for our trails is super duper high. This is not the end of the world for the outdoor industry, it's just...

Bolt on BB is a great way to manipulate your Front/Rear center ratio while not changing much else and really isolate the effect of said ratio and basically CS length. Great for a test mule but could also be nice to see on a commercially available bike.
