Jason_Schroeder Liked a forum topic Shimano Drops New 2.2mm Thick Rotors in 200/220mm Sizes - Thoughts?
6/17/2026 2:28am Shimano new thicker 2.2mm rotor, the RT-750, in 200 or 220mm diameters is now officially live. Their mountain bike rotors have historically been 1.8mm thick and tapped out at 203mm (except for the cheaper RT-66 that was available in 220mm). The RT-750 is offered in the usual mounting styles—Center Lock (CL750) and 6-Bolt (6B750). Unlike Shimano’s XT or XTR rotors, it does not feature a two-piece design with Shimano’s Ice Technology. The rotors are claimed to offer all the usual benefits of going bigger and thicker 😶—more power/bite, better heat management for consistency over long runs and less chance of...

6/17/2026 2:25am Hot on the heels of the new Deore Mechanical groupset and brakes , Shimano has introduced new Deore XT M8200 mechanical derailleurs and shifters. There are 11-speed Linkglide and 12-speed Hyperglide+ options, and most of the updates mirror what was launched two days ago with Deore. The crankset, cassette and brakes remain unchanged, as they were recently updated last year when XT Di2 was released. 6/17/2026 2:20am Entire drivetrain industry scared that they already made the best mechanical components years ago and there is little room for improvement. Sandbagging the weight and material preserves the tier structure.

6/17/2026 2:15am You must not have ever ridden moto. Using the rear brake in the air is a definite technique to bring the front end down a bit.

6/17/2026 2:11am Pick a chainring size and be a dick about it? Honestly who cares. Kind of reminds me of skiing, where if you don’t ski on 130 flex boots you’re a lil bish. I have a commute and regular guy job and live kinda far from trails. I don’t have as much free time as others to be an ascent monster. Let me enjoy my 30t ring. Don’t yuck my yum yo!!

6/17/2026 1:52am I've been to Primoz' neck of the woods and would like to add that: You should absolutely go to that neck of the woods to ride if you get a chance. Primoz raced cross country for years before switching to longer travel bikes, and was fitter than me when we rode together. He's a great host and I cannot recommend Bled Cream Cake enough. However, I would not recommend eating it right before a 87 F/31 C mountain bike ride with Primoz. Primoz, I'm still right about heavier tire casings and softer compound. Fight me. Most power-based training plans emphasize...

6/17/2026 1:51am The F1 comparisons don't really make any sense beyond the fact that both are the pointy end of things. Unlike on pavement, ABS does not necessarily reduce stopping distance on loose surfaces. It can actually increase stopping distance in many scenarios. I honestly believe running ABS in a DH race would be detrimental more than anything. Trophy trucks would probably be a better analogy in this regard.

6/11/2026 9:47am My experience with the Conti rubbers is similar to @notanengineer ... even the Super Soft lasts longer than the useful life of the tire itself. At a certain point, the casing starts losing structure, and the knobs start cracking at the base well before they physically wear down. As his durometer testing showed, they layer a harder rubber over a softer core, which is the opposite of most other brands. In our abrasive dirt, the knob "shells" kind of get polished down and very slippery too, before they become physically worn down. IMO, their whole rubber lineup should be effectively...

6/11/2026 8:37am Some of my bikes have headsets with damped bearings that pretty much require 5NM preload. I also like the Bikeyoke Aimy steerer clamp that lets me set the preload and then not having to touch it again when re-aligning or removing the stem.

6/11/2026 8:37am Dead on with my experience of headset preload, which started this thread. I had 2 issues going on (one of which was an actual creaky CSU) but also wasn't quite preloading enough. I have found now that for the combination of my frames, headsets, the grease I use, the tapped OneUp EDC top cap, my torque wrench, etc. - 6nm is my sweet spot (a bit higher than what CK recommends). At that point it spins smoothly but with a tiny bit of resistance in the stand but its not noticeable on the bike. No more settling in and developing...

6/11/2026 2:23am If the bars still turn smoothly then it isn't too tight - there needs to be tension in the bearings themselves to work properly, but there will be noticeable resistance if its too tight. Grease the bolt thread (and maybe under the head) and makes sure all the surfaces are clean and at least lightly greased so there isn't anything binding up and preventing the parts from being pulled together. Theres a lot of pieces in a headset which adds up to frcition as you tighten the bolt. You are unlikely to break anything by overtightening a normal headset (ignore...

6/10/2026 2:56pm And now on to another topic that is also discussed in this thread: Headset preload. How much is enough? What is the safe upper limit? Some people are mentioning, that you can go as far as bars don't rotate freely anymore. But even when I put 6Nm, (and that actually feels quite a lot) bars still rotate freely to me...

6/10/2026 2:45pm @AndehM , thx for the reply and some insight. The 38 does probably make the most sense. @TheSuspensionLabNZ, He pressed the stanchions and steerer out and used some adhesive to bond them in again. He wouldn't tell me what he used, but said that it should be permanent solution. Good catch regarding the top caps. I checked both legs and...
