The disposable nature of Shimano brake components is a real head-scratcher and a bit of an anachronism in today's world. Is there anyone doing good quality rebuild kits that can be trusted? This has been the first flex stays frame I have built. Previously there have been three linkage driven single pivots and a classic single pivot. The rear end sits at neutral at 40% travel with the shock removed.

Flex is great... until it isn't. It seems to be this subtle thing that is largely ignored or not reacted to, until a big flex happens where the bike seems to "disappear" for moment, providing that "vague" feeling and possibly shaking confidence. Flex also seems to be something that is both structurally and input driven. So a minor flex on a mellow event can turn into a larger flex in a high load event. Been experimenting with larger grips as opposed to smaller ones and notice they’re easier to grip as OD increases. I have smaller than average hands so I have doubts we’re really addressing this problem correctly.

It's a data point but I feel like every German review, is biased towards German products. Tires, motors, suspension, cars, etc. Hey, maybe they are just better. What is true is that eventually the manufacturing grease goes away and Avinox motors will all rattle to some extend or another just due to their design, just like the EP801s & Bosch Gen4 before them rattled.

Trying to focus this one the thread topic on hand, I'm willing to bet that when SC updates the Nomad and Megatower next year, they go 4-bar also. I have a Vala, a Nomad 6, and a Heckler SL, and strongly prefer the Vala kinematics overall. As mentioned above, it reduces anti-squat and anti-rise to a better level, which pay dividends in reduced pedal feedback when riding hard. The VPP design is nice for making a poppy, energetic platform, so it probably has a place on their shorter travel bikes, but I think on their longer travel enduro/freeride bikes, their...

With the current VPP system, they can’t get the anti-squat to where they want it, based on the V10 project. The shock can’t be moved forward enough b/c the motor gets in the way. If you look at the current Bronson/Hightower, that is why the shock is mounted further in the frame. They are moving the VPP towards Horst link numbers anyway, so I don’t see too many downsides of the Vala/Bullit moving to a Horst.

But this is just plain incorrect. The simplest way I can explain it to you is this. Roll from a 10m hill down, you convert the gravitational potential energy into momentum, that energy is fixed. If you have 29" or 26" wheel do don't get more or less energy from rolling down the hill. Now once you have gained momentum, you hit the flat and start braking, converting this momentum into primarily heat via braking. Force is not energy as you are alluding (by saying more force means more energy). Force over distance is energy. A larger wheel rotates more slowly (in RPM), so the same sized rotor on a bigger wheel will make less rotations covering the same distance. The force is increased because the braking path of the pad traveling over the rotor decreases.

One of us hasn't understood what Cascade said, and I'm inclined to think its you. The formula he wrote out clearly states In the end the radius of the wheel is not included in the energy equation. The larger wheel doesn't require more energy than a small one to brake. The reason it requires more force at the caliper is leverages, but that doesn't mean more energy overall. Therefore it doesn't produce more heat, as the energy is the same.

If you reset your pistons, pad retract is always relative to the braking surface so you have the same pad clearance regardless of rotor thickness. Increasing rotor thickness will only impact the clearance/dead stroke if you don’t reset the pistons, but over time as your pads wear it will work its way to the same spot.

Idk what to call that lol. On a bright side because they took the pivots off of the seat tube there is nothing to interfere with dropper insertion. Looks like it should be able to clear 200+mm droppers without an issue. Also couldnt tell from Priority's instagram post but it looks like its mullet as well
