I'm probably the exception, but I think I've flat out broken more shifters than derailleurs. Sure, derailleur cages get bent and pulley teeth break off, but you can make it work for the rest of the trip and do some better McGyvering back home. But smash a shifter in a crash and you're SOL. It's just so appealing to stay X01 (other than cranks and one GX derailleur with X01 b-bolt) on all my bikes because I can move stuff around easily and keeping a stockpile of spare parts is much simpler. Yeti factory racing ran the 11sp shimano XT for the old e-enduro series before it was paused.

It's even better when paired with an XTR shifter.

First thing I want to say is that I am a SRAM fan. I began running their drivetrains in the mid-00s and have ever since. At the time (and still according to many) Shimano shifted smoothly whereas SRAM was clunky. My point of view was that Shimano always felt vague and I preferred the noted clunk of SRAM as it went into gear. I still do. I have SRAM mechanical drivetrains on three bikes. Two have XO1 and one has GX all paired to 10-50t cassettes. I run Wolf Tooth oval rings with all of them. All have been trouble...

I'm sure some folks will break out their pitchforks, but I'll go on record and say that I much prefer my T-Type GX drivetrain to any of the last generation Shimano/Sram drivetrains. I found the 12s XT/XTR hyperglide offerings to be made of cheese, with constantly failing clutches, terrible cassettes that would either creak or just have their rivets fail, and the Eagle drivetrains seemed to either work well or not function no matter what you did. I think the people who complain about the slow shifting of the wireless version should give it another try with the multi-shift on...

Talk me out of this I’m currently on a mix setup that feels perfect to me X01 shifter ( crisp feel, adjustable paddle ) Xx1 chain ( beautiful, no rush, lasts forever ) Gx shifter, cheap and honest other than the B assembly nothing major in terms of performance with a x01 or xx1 XT cassette ( the spacing is way better than the stupid 52/42 on Sram) But here’s the thing, my previous GX was SILENT, no chainslap, strong clutch and all, but then the rivets gave up and it sounded like my grandmas wardrobe, so I got another...

Fastest shift in the west is still the ol' trusty 11 Speed XT. Double gear downshift, crispy leaver feel, textured lever and can bend it pretty hard before it starts to shift poorly (unlike eagle or shimano 12 speed, which does good but could be better). I find that Transmission is a 180 stright into oncoming traffic in terms of progress, between the narrow-wide cassette, ridiculously massive derailleur, absurd price tag, and last but not least... probably one of the worse mtb inventions of the past 20 years, the UDH. Before the invention of UDH's, hangers were a lot smaller...

I'm also on the 2.1 and it is very impressive.

I loved my V2 when I got it, not the most "supple" but amazing support! But it slowly deteriorated even with regular lower leg services into crap with the bushings scratching the uppers. I got new uppers and lowers on warranty and upgraded to V2.1. It is now by far the best singlecrown fork I have tried! I have half a year into the V2.1 by now and it keeps going strong, still very supple off the top but great support. Much easier to set up as well.

I’m into this idea, I badly want the transmission but couldn’t justify the money but if it makes a difference to noise and I can get a good lifespan out of the rear derailleur. I really prefer to buy something and be able to service it over and over, throwing away derailleurs that look perfectly fine on the outside but have no clutch tension and are full of slop just feels so wasteful.

You guys didn't seem to give alot of love to Fontana series. Gwin, Harrison, Dooley, Silva, Pinkerton, Nesteroff to name a few all started there and continue to race there. It was always great to see Gwin pushing his bike up with all the kids and take the time to say hi to all. I think Fontana is a great jewel of DH racing in So Cal. Where else can you start racing in January and ride with some of the best in the world close to home in So Cal.

I beg to differ. If it works well for pro riders it´ll work pretty good for the average Joey as well, ofc. a downhill racers setup differs, but most already uses custom linkages and frames.

Bikes should be designed for average to expert lever riders, as we are the ones who are paying for them. Pros should be on custom frames that share the same design and aesthetic but use geometry, suspension kinematics, and construction that is tailored for them. This might mean they run alloy frames while the production is carbon. Everybody wins: pros aren't held back by our needs, we aren't passengers on a hyperspace barge that we can't make sense of.

From what I've read it was Freecaster who were behind it, but they dropped the idea when RB announced they would be providing free coverage of the UCI events using more and better definition cameras than Freecaster were proposing for the breakaway series, so they feared a lot of teams wouldn't compete in DH1 and dropped the idea. It would be the ultimate irony if RB resurrected it in response to Discovery taking over.

On a serious note, in the ews last year not all racers were allowed to wear go pros for the race (not sure about practice). People from top teams were allowed to film, but not everyone. Does anyone know why this if this was? I hope it's not related to discovery getting exclusive rights to it.

We spend 8 months out of the year talking about team rumors, but what does Warner's contract look like? I'd be surprised if there wasn't some form of non-compete in there with all of the other video segments he's part of for RBMH. As fun as it is listening to Phil Liggett describing the history of every ruin and Castle to fill the commentating gaps during the TdF, would be interesting to see who they tap if Warner isn't interested/able to make the jump.

Kickstarter! yes, perfect....Palmer as his co-host? Yeah, XC too....between NICA events and Rebull XC shows, a whole new crop of American kids wanna be XC heroes too. Hell, Redbull XC has inspired old farts too-I've never been so engaged and watching those XC races...so much so, I just built a Nino replica Scott XC bike!

if they don't hire warner, we kickstarter to get an alternative audio stream of warner. also, over the last two-three years b/c of red bull free streams, watching XC has been awesome. i never cared before, but the coverage had me tuning in. hopefully that continues as well.
