2/22/2022 12:56am I hope everyone that made a complaint about the FREE redbull coverage over the years, wishes they did not. Redbull changed the entire landscape of DH and XC racing. Huge resurgence for both sports, in terms of viewership since Redbull got involved. They built hype, excitement and did it well. It is an incredibly hard sport to cover, logistically and they got better and better. UCI owes redbull a debt of gratitude. Too early to tell what will come of this, perhaps DiscoTV will lead us to a whole new audience? and that can be good. I just don't know...

2/22/2022 12:49am Personally I would love to see an alternative race series, I remember it was tried in the past with DH1 (IIRC backed by Freecaster?) but it never happened. I know there are people in the industry who'll say the UCI's involvement is a good thing, but it seems to me they are far more interested in bleeding all the money they can out of DH, rather than investing in it.

2/22/2022 12:49am Anyone who works in the TV realm know how Monster Energy has kept the Supercross series under this whole time? I have to assume that if RedBull & Monster are still involved in the process, that title sponsor is going to be the monetary battle front we the viewers will have to hope proves profitable. If title sponsorship via Discovery is profitable enough for Discovery (which is how it's SUPPOSED TO WORK), then the advertisement covers the cost of our viewing experience. I loved paying for the Peacock network last year so that I could watch all the qualifying and...

2/22/2022 12:47am Anyone know if discovery's roadie coverage is any good? The only thing I know about them is they own gmbn... and to be honest I can't stand anything they put on youtube. Their ews recaps aren't as good as they could be either. More to the point, I hope this doesn't signify that red bull (or red bull media) will be reducing it's involvement in mtb in general. I'm not a big fan of any energy drink, but rb has done a lot for mtb. Best case scenario (i.e. probably a total fantasy) they're doing this so they can setup...

2/22/2022 12:46am I remember so many complaints over the years re: Red Bull TV coverage. Whatever these were, a paywall is most definitely much worse.

2/22/2022 12:45am Guarantee that any free option is going away, so might as well accept it now. RedBull kept it free because it was one giant advertisement for their product. Discovery is a true media company so all streaming coverage is going behind a paywall. I will wait to see how the coverage goes before I start complaining. I have not watched their Giro coverage previously so don't have any experience yet.

2/22/2022 12:45am IMO, Red Bull TV is also "large, corporate media." But they've mostly done a good job with the WCDH broadcasts and I loved being able to watch the replays after work for free. I really hope a free viewing option remains and that the quality of coverage--camera angles, commentary, etc--doesn't drop with this move.

2/22/2022 12:44am I won't jump to conclusions just yet since this is still a ways away. But I have to appreciate the ease of using the RedBull TV app on my phone and TV to watch races. Honestly a real luxury that I guess I took for granted ! Hopefully Discovery does a decent job with it. RedBull fit well into the whole UCI race campaign with RedBull athletes making mini series and the fact that this is more of a niche sport anyways. Redbull was a huge improvement over the FreeCaster days. I'm sure it comes down to money and RedBull...

2/22/2022 12:43am here are the words from the press release The UCI set to partner with Discovery Sports for the organisation and promotion of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup from 2023 UCI - 21 Feb 2022 At its recent meeting in Montreux (Switzerland) from 10 to 12 February, the Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) decided to enter into exclusive negotiations with Discovery Sports for the organisation and promotion of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup for eight seasons, from 2023 to 2030. 2/22/2022 12:40am Oh wow. Time to make a bag of popcorn and head over to the comment site. On a more serious note the red Bull and uci mtb partnership seemed to really work well for everyone. The discovery and ews partnership has been pretty rough. Not that there aren’t other factors but I think a major factor Reese Wilson’s career has exploded is the spotlight he gets on Red Bull and he doesn’t even wear one of their helmets. If jack was having the year he is having in dh he wouldn’t YouTube vids to make a payday. The quality and...

11/1/2021 3:21am I haven’t ridden a 38 or a Zeb but I can say that I definitely feel more confidence from the front end precision that I get with my Boxxer. I weigh about 75kg so not super heavy. Dual crown is the ultimate way to get chassis stiffness so if the bigger stantions get a step closer then great. A mainstream dual crown enduro fork weighing 2.1kg would be even better, and without needing the large seals and bushes that add to friction. Unfortunately fashion dictates that it wouldn’t sell so we get big lowers instead.

11/1/2021 3:05am I'm 210 ready to ride and notice the stiffness going from 36 -> Zeb. Non-stiffness thoughts: There's was a 20 hour break in period for me until the bushings widened out some, so wait until then for judging it. Overall I'm faster, but I do miss a few things. The Zeb (and maybe 38) axle to crown is almost a cm taller than 36/Lyriks and I had to remove that much stack worth of spacers and a bit more because... the C1 air spring rides weirdly tall. It's impossible to get over 20% sag unless you go 10 psi under...

11/1/2021 2:57am Not to get off to a tangent here, but since it's being floated out there a bunch in the most recent posts. I want to just say that I have had coil converted forks using push and vorsprung. I have also gone down the road of custom dampers in my previous forks. Those coil converted and custom damper forks were no better or worse then my zeb or 36 provided I am keeping up on lower leg services and am certain about bushing burnishing. I just want to throw some water onto the fire that the money would be best...

11/1/2021 2:57am The benefit for coil to me is the "can have your cake and eat it too" mentality (besides weight) With an air spring (I'm talking typical single chamber, not runt or IRT) you can have lovely small bump but the midstroke support is just not there. Where I ride it's Steep and Ledgy, that mid stroke dive can be very un-nerving. Conversely, you can shoot for mid stroke support but small bump will suffer. When you get to my weight, I need 120psi in a 38 to acheive a level of support I'm after from the spring. The 38 when...

10/14/2021 4:44pm Interestingly, if you look at all the EWS racers, it seems that a lot of them opt for a slightly harsher setup, one that rides a little more playfully, and like a smaller bike. It seems like these smaller bikes, the Orbea, the Spire and the Canyon Strive really are quickest if you know what you're doing.

10/14/2021 4:43pm Are you me? I've also had my Spire with an X2 for about two weeks and it feels amazing. I just raced it over the weekend at Ashland and moved up 6 places in my category compared to the early season on my old Patrol. I set the rear end up with reccommended settings based on the least sag reccommended by Transition and haven't felt the need to touch it. Seems like Pinkbike had trouble with the Superdeluxe as well.

10/14/2021 4:43pm I've had my Spire for around two weeks now and have been very impressed with it. It's interesting that you & other sites have said the rear suspension is harsh - that's just about the last word I would use to describe it. That super deluxe shock must be doing the bike dirty, I got the build with an X2 shock. I'll offer a counter argument for the 30 tooth chainring - I think it's a perfect spec choice for the sort of riding a lot of people will be doing on this bike, at least in the PNW where...
