Salespunk Added a reply to What happened to World enduro?
1/8/2026 9:03am People either don't remember or never read the early interviews with CB. He said early on that the plan was always to fold it back under the UCI banner. He did it separately because the UCI wouldn't fund the experiment so he stepped out to do it on his own. As for EWS itself, they lost the thread. Yes, there...

1/8/2026 7:25am I went from an enduro die hard fan when EWS started back in the day, to barely checking results or coverage around 2024. Some of it is personal, when EWS started out, I had met a lot of the French pros at local/regional/national races, it was easy to root for your local teenager: Nicolai, Cure, Dailly, Tordo and the legends Barel and Vouilloz. Little by little they started to retire or get hurt and not perform quite as well, these days I only recognise a handful of the names in the top 10. Hate to bring up a sour subject...

5/5/2025 10:38am You have to match the cassette and chain. You will not be happy running a Sram chain on a Shimano cassette unfortunately. I have run the Shimano chain/cassette with Sram shifter/RD and loved it. Best value IMO is XT 12 spd. Clutch can be adjusted and shifting just works. Sram manages their product differentiation by tolerances in the RD. Just...
Between The Tape Liked a forum topic High vs. Low Tire Pressures: Which Is Faster?
1/24/2025 9:46am We all know the theory: lower tire pressures mean more grip, and higher pressures roll faster. But when it comes to real-world speed, which one really wins? I set out to answer this with 30 timed runs down the same track. ◾ The Experiment Two sets of tire pressures were chosen for my 88kg (194lbs) weight: 25/28 psi (front/rear) for the higher pressures and 18/20 psi (front/rear) for the lower pressures. These pressures maintain a consistent 0.9 front-to-rear ratio, with the high pressures aligning with recommendations such as those from E13 . After three warm-up laps, each tire pressure setup...

1/21/2025 10:39am First let me say this is an awesome and informative thread so keep it up because I want to learn more. Now, my inner 10 year old that I can't seem to control, who knows very little about trophy trucks other than they are the coolest thing on the planet, and desperately wants a Raptor because its the closest thing he'll ever get to one, wants you to know he spent his entire birthday money on this in 1989.

1/1/2025 8:12am With the arrival of 2025 and big changes underway, here's a quick look back at how team and rider numbers have evolved over the years. All data pulled from the UCI website (https://www.uci.org/riders/mountain-bike-riders-teams/1V5hGPnEvXzbIqkjU…). The number of teams peaked in 2023 with a total of 184 (128 standard, 56 elite). 2024 saw the second highest number of teams on record with 163 (112 standard, 51 elite). The bike bubble bursting was already beginning to have an effect going into the 2024 season, even with the upcoming Olympic games. The growth in teams from 2021 (119 teams) to 2023 (184 teams) likely...

Salespunk Added a comment about feature TESTED: Race Face Era Carbon Wheels
12/9/2024 10:17am Unlikely that the final hit is what killed the wheel. The week in Whistler or some of the riding is Socal likely caused the issue and the hit in PC caused the final failure. BTW great review and thank you for showing the failure. Everything breaks (especially under Mikey) so real world experience is important.

Salespunk Added a reply to The Bikeconomics (Mega)Thread
11/5/2024 8:51am I see scenario 2 a lot in the tech industry, but they include the wider company org. Basically during the D/E/F rounds employees are allowed to sell a certain percentage of their equity into the round. I have also seen companies offer employees liquidity in between rounds as well through private placement. At my last company both founders sold over...

11/5/2024 8:38am To quote a VC I know, "We expect the money to be spent immediately. If we wanted money in a bank, we would keep it in our bank." Basically when these businesses become over capitalized they are pushed to spend the money as quickly as possible. You could see this in the auction for TPC where they were selling multiple...

11/1/2024 9:38am It is important to note that demand during Covid should be thought of pull forward and not regular organic growth that then disappeared. What I mean by that is these are people that at some point would have bought a bike to try it out but it might have been 2-5 years farther out. Instead all of that demand (and...

10/30/2024 9:17am Interesting that you are getting down voted for stating what is showed in this data. Most people are doing fine, if not better than before the pandemic. Majority of those stating they are spending less are doing so for personal reasons ie; kids, conscience choice, like what they already own. A few people are doing worse, which sucks, but there...

10/30/2024 9:10am I’m interested to know why you think people have less purchasing power than say early or pre pandemic. I will agree some people have less purchasing power than during the pandemic. 1200 a week is a significant raise for a vast portion of Americans even if a significant decrease for “middle class Americans”. And they could do that while staying home and not paying for child care. Again i work in the restaurant industry. I have no problem saying we have greatly increased our costs towards our consumers. But its purely labor. Honestly profit margins are slightly down and product...

10/30/2024 9:07am Same here, and also have 2 kids who are getting towards college age but MTB is pretty much the only hobby I spend money on (I run too but shoes are cheap compared to bikes) and I quit drinking a few years ago so that also freed up some cash. Also fortunate that my family understands how integral to my physical and mental health bikes are so they are supportive (occasional eye-rolling aside 🤣)

Jason_Schroeder Liked a comment about Feature FIRST RIDE: Transition's Sentinel V3
10/24/2024 9:52am The Sentinel is still a bit more descent hungry than the Stumpjumper 15. It just rides with more authority and isn't as light on its feet as the Stumpy when it comes to moving the bike around. Not to say you can't get jiggy on the Sentinel. I would just pick it over the Stumpy if I was heading to a bike park or going shuttling since it felt more composed in the rough stuff. Climbing abilities are really similar. I rode the Stumpy with an Eliminator/Bucher GridTrail casing tire combo, and the Sentinel with a High Roller 3/Assegai DH...

Jason_Schroeder Liked a product review Long-Term Review: Rocky Mountain Instinct
7/11/2024 7:10am
In March, Rocky Mountain pulled back the veil on their latest Instinct trail bike. After a few years of sharing frames with its more capable big brother, the Altitude, the Instinct regained its independence with a dedicated and revised chassis. Complete with internal storage, a grip of geometry adjustments, and a proven suspension layout, Rocky aimed to give riders the do-it-all trail bike that could adapt to any terrain or rider preference. We spent the past four months finding out what's on offer with each Instinct adaptation and where this aggressive trail bike shines or leaves more to be desired...

7/2/2024 1:08pm 100% they will offer a lower end alloy build that will have ports for mechanical drivetrains. When was the last time you saw someone buy/build an XT or XTR bike that was more than $6K? It happens, but very rarely so they probably lost 0.001% of sales by not allowing for a mechanical build.

Salespunk Added a reply to Is the UCI TV Coverage Hate Unwarrented
5/21/2024 8:28am Camera work at Poland was incredible. Commentating is fine with Gwin in the both. Regarding Enduro coverage, the manufacturers/teams need to take this on themselves. It is obvious that UCI/WB are killing coverage, although this week was better than last week. That being said the teams/manufacturers should be collaborating with each other and pooling the rider GoPro's/team videographers images. Then...
