Pablo Fiorilli BRS Liked a comment about Feature Bright Racing's F929 Next Custom Fork Review

dear dirty booger, Thanks for the question.. This article was done, to my pleasure, by someone (@one ghost) who has been using the fork for a long time and has been attentive to our set up information (ultimately not that complicated, the Bright RS is a very adaptable to the end) and was very open and intrigued from the start. If a company that spends so much money on design and research gives you directions and tells you that you can't use a fork like this as you would use a cheap production one, if a company like this recommends...

I would love to try one of these forks to see if its for me. It seems like one of the challenges of something like this is since its rare, custom, etc., people have to put up a lot of money with faith it will be good. I guess that's why they named the Trust fork that. Trust us, it's great!

It's cool they let you choose what you want for not wildly high cost. That also seems less wasteful than swapping things right away. I prefer silver spokes because they never squeak.

Changing stroke length doesn't change leverage ratio. It lowers ride height at sag and increases the travel on the bottom-out side of the travel, but the average leverage ratio stays virtually the same. Changing rear center length does change the leverage ratio and wheel travel. Also, lower leverage ratios require MORE damping in the shock, as current dampers are speed-sensitive. That is suspensions with progressive leverage ratios are called "rising rate". They drive the shock (and the damper oil) at a faster rate as the leverage ratio drops during compression towards bottom-out. You are correct about lower leverage requiring less...

Interesting insights there for sure! I find it interesting how downhillers have to put down their fastest complete run after 3 days of smashing laps on a world cup track. As he points out, his bike was theoretically capable of going faster but he was too worn out. I wonder how many guys would have better results from running a more forgiving set up all weekend as opposed to the one that has tested "faster"?

Stoked to see Cody getting even more support. I had a feeling specialized wanted more out of him when he said last fall he was dropping fox apparel. Look forward to seeing the team at the CES races this season.

I'm not sure I'd agree that EWS riders run a "slightly harsher" setup. In every rider interview I’ve read, heard,or seen they say their EWS bike is setup slightly or significantly softer than their DH bike because the races are so much longer, more physically draining, and they aren't able to memorize every root and rock on the track. I know EWS riders are riding smaller bikes to keep them maneuverable, but I don't know if I'd call them harsh. Everyone I know who races the EWS runs more of the "magic carpet" suspension setup vs. the "set it stiff...

Surprised by the hate for the 45mm stem. I'm 5-10 and run a 50mm stem on all my bikes with a 760mm bar, includinga Spire. I have a 35mm hope stem I've tried on 3 bikes and preferred a 50mm every time. Too short makes it feel like I can't put enough weight on the front wheel

Are you me? I've also had my Spire with an X2 for about two weeks and it feels amazing. I just raced it over the weekend at Ashland and moved up 6 places in my category compared to the early season on my old Patrol. I set the rear end up with reccommended settings based on the least sag reccommended by Transition and haven't felt the need to touch it. Seems like Pinkbike had trouble with the Superdeluxe as well.

I've had my Spire for around two weeks now and have been very impressed with it. It's interesting that you & other sites have said the rear suspension is harsh - that's just about the last word I would use to describe it. That super deluxe shock must be doing the bike dirty, I got the build with an X2 shock. I'll offer a counter argument for the 30 tooth chainring - I think it's a perfect spec choice for the sort of riding a lot of people will be doing on this bike, at least in the PNW where...

Or even an X2. Pinkbike said it wasn't as easy to get a good setup with Rockshox. Mine has the X2 and the rear end feels great, but I can't compare to these others

Sounds like they may make sense for you, but I'm not that hard on rims. In 29er there is a weight savings as well, just not 650b. I still would want to get something that was at least a bit lighter than alloy if I'm going to pay the carbon premium, and other brands seem to make that happen. Even Stan's carbon Flow rims (which cost more and may or may not be as durable) save 60 grams over the alloy version (and 65 over these).

I almost ordered these rims to do a custom wheel build, but they did not compare favorably to alloy options. In 650b 30mm wide, a Stan's Flow MK3 rim is actually 5 grams lighter and a DT Swiss XM81 is only 5 grams heavier. Considering those rims cost about $100 each and these go for $450 each, I just don't see the point. If I'm going to pay the premium for carbon wheels, I want both improved ride quality and lower weight.
