edit because of time zones: June 5th in Japan = June 4th in USA Shimano just publicly announced that they're opening the kimono on Jun 5th.

They're just copying srams retarded decision to tuck the hoses up against the bars as though we're all roadies that are going to integrate them into our bars and headsets. I thought we'd effectively communicated to manufacturers that we didn't want that shit but Shimano is late to the party and has misread their customers once again. So now we get more cable rub and noise from both the major brands, unless you're a weirdo who buys Scott I guess. Gives everyone else a little more motivation to explore other options.

I was an engineer on Felt's 6-bar link bikes and found it to be an immense PITA to work with. I don't feel it offers any advantages over other multilinks, different but not better. The extra parts inevitably weigh more, flex more, cost more, and present more opportunities for failure. Though it is possible to make good bikes with a 6-bar link, the experience motivated me to develop the most minimal multilink suspension I could devise.

Small nerd correction: what Orbea is doing is really smart because they can make the same (or more) number of SKUs but reduce their CAPEX (mold investments & tooling) significantly. Hypothetically, they can make 10 DH models and 10 Enduro models (lots of SKUs) but from a "single" mold investment and different metal links (reduced CAPEX). This is very challenging for Orbea because they have to essentially plan 2 different bikes in the same mold set up. More has to be figured out (compared to making separate DH and separate Enduro bikes) before they go to tooling. We do a...

This is a very elegant solution and makes perfect sense in the economics of product development.

New propain tyee just launched about an hour ago. Interesting to see both Ochain and Trickstuff brakes come as oem. Its this the first bike to come with Trickstuff from factory? I know there was a scott scale in limited numbers if that counts, otherwise I cant think of one. https://www.propain-bikes.com/en/product/bikes/enduro/tyee-cf/

I don’t think you get it Dave. We are going to revolutionize fork manufacturing on this forum without ever having visited a factory or even talking to a designer or engineer about the myriad of factors that affect the design and manufacture of said forks.

Was this mentioned here? SR Suntour are working with Rogue Racing to develop an electronically actuated shock. Pictures are from the pink website. Apparently the actuator is controlled by a software that reads the terrains and it acts on the normal compression circuit. The shock can be locked out too.

I honestly think Rockshox doesn't get enough credit for their attention to friction - everyone loves to talk about the latest dampers but those come well after the friction and the spring in terms of what actually matters. I noticed things like increasing the bushing length and carefully choosing bath oil viscosity (not too thick in most forks, but the short travel skinny leg forks get heavier oil) along with good alignment and clearances in the new forks. Fox still use very short bushings in all their models, plus I'm positive the oil channels they added in the lowers do...

Somebody asked about fork dampers on Vorsprung's IG last week, and they said "sure", or words to that effect. I emailed Vorsprung asking if they could make a 38 damper, and they replied that Steve has designs started, there is no guaranteed timeline, but that they can likely make one that's cost competitive vs the GRIP X2 and Charger 3.1 dampers. When I regained consciousness, I posted about it here.

I wasn't too sure where to post this so feel free to delete or move accordingly if it's in the wrong thread. Troy Brosnan's mechanic seems to be double taping the rim. Once with the Dt-Swiss rim tape and then a layer of Gorilla Tape over the top? What could the reasons be behind this? It looks like the DT tape is going from edge to edge so the Gorilla wouldn't be offering any additional adhesive. Is it a tape thickness thing? Never seen anyone double tape like that before.
