5/12/2025 11:23am I've been a bit curious about how most people center their calipers. I initially would center based on the gaps in the pads, but when I worked at a shop, I learned to center the rotor between the caliper gaps and ignore the pads initially. Then if the pads made uneven contact (assuming the pistons had been cleaned and lubed)...

5/12/2025 10:59am It's possible to use them wrong. If you follow the procedure that makes the most of them they're great, quite an improvement over the standard process. If you don't, and take the same kind of approach you would with a brake that doesn't have them then they kinda just get in the way. - Back out crosshair screws - Push on caliper to move it inboard so outer pad is fully in contact with rotor - Tighten down caliper bolts until you just can't move the caliper by hand (not until play is gone, i mean until you are unable...

5/9/2025 8:16am Some neat stuff in here. I know Vital doesn't have the budget to send someone to China for an extended period of time, but would be interesting to have a series covering the China scene (riders, small builders, trails etc).

5/8/2025 1:04pm Not going to lie, I got Lewis brakes and ran them all last season and they've been amazing. More consistent and better modulation than my Shimano brakes and more than enough power to stop my 270lb self on Squamish slabs and dh tracks throughout Alberta and BC. No leaks. No sticky pistons. Easy to bleed. I didn't go out of my way to order them. My LBS brought a set in to check them out and I got a great deal on them to be the guinea pig and report back. You may not like them for ethical reasons, but...

5/8/2025 7:49am Right on cue, here's our 1st gallery from the China Cycle 2025 show which just wrapped up after 4 intensive days in Shanghai: https://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/members/china-cycle-2025-shanghai. Lots of clones of course but lots of really interesting work being done too!

5/7/2025 1:31pm are these not just TRP Evo Pro brakes in black? judging by the lever and bite adjust screws... and well... the exact shape of the lever body. With all due respect to Mitch, I HIGHLY doubt he's a part of Ohlins/Brembo "test riders" when the only ones we've seen in the athlete space are Specialized Gravity.

5/7/2025 8:32am In the german press release it says: " Das Zusammenspiel zwischen Stabilität und Reaktionsfähigkeit ist nicht immer leicht miteinander zu vereinbaren, aber diese beiden Eigenschaften sind entscheidend bei einem Downhill-Bike." I would roughly translate it to "achiving a compromise between stability and responsiveness (which is essentiell for a DH bike) is not easy and leads to trade offs of some form". And I think the last part was meant by the "non negotiable" term.

4/26/2025 11:52pm Why does it need to be somebody to add colour to the commentary? That didn't go down very well with CG. If we were looking at safer options and it was Chris Hall from Downtime, I'd be happy with that. As an analyst Chris Kilmurray would be fantastic, but he may be busy during the race weekend.

4/26/2025 9:32pm Oh goodness, here I go derailing the thread.... I run centerlines on saints on the DH bike. I find Shimano RT86s and up in the icetech lineup eventually go through enough heat-cool cycles on full DH laps that they become warped to the point they can no longer be trued ages before they wear out. You can get the icetech rotor OK in the stand again but as soon as you heat that sucker up again, it's back to warp-ville. While its likely this is a parts bin build there's nothing wrong with mixing and matching brands unless someone is...

4/15/2025 9:36am Hi! This is my first post on this thread, but I have been reading for 2 years now. I talked with Sam pilgrim and a few other canyon guys at Tennessee Nationals, and also got to swing a leg over the Production New canyon sender. Supposedly the bike was supposed to release April 12 (that’s what Sam said, he also verified that it was the production version he was riding) so there’s a chance maybe it is releasing this month still? His bike had a baby blue color with white canyon letters. The (production?) bike also was equipped with the...
