Guys nothing new here, it’s a Mineral oil caliper, same as a E4, it’s been around for ages, it’s just the PM version of what dolface just posted above me

Just tried a GX shifter on a 90 group set. Works awesome only downside is that when you try the multi shift it gets hung up on the 52th. But indexing is perfect. So you could run an X01 shifter with 90 for a crisper feel. It would work flawlessly with an e-bike X01 as it is limited to two shifts at a time.

Just to be clear: my request for Dr Digit to refrain from using the kimono line is solely because it makes me think of Steven Segall slowly opening his robe at me without breaking his stare. I haven’t researched the term enough to know if I should find it offensive for any other reasons.

Yeah, when I think of “kimono” I think of Steven Seagal. Don’t even know how to spell his name I’m so flustered.

I am offended by Centerlock though. Definitely.

love a stabby Shimano brake but Centerlock would only be okay if Centerlock were all there is. It’s Betamax, cooler and better but just not worth it

I’m not sure why, but I have a feeling that these new brakes we're seeing from Hope, with their new bleed ports, will operate using mineral oil rather than DOT fluid.

The bleed ports are different from those on current Hope models (e.g. new threads, unusual positioning, different diameters), which could suggest a complete shift in the system's design philosophy—specifically toward mineral oil.

edit because of time zones: June 5th in Japan = June 4th in USA

Shimano just publicly announced that they're opening the kimono on Jun 5th.

I know everyone is expecting an xtr di2 or whatever the electronic shifting will be called, but does the case code not suggest something else? It's set to 333 (after googling) is their first ever freewheel, the first Shimano product.

Are they just using this to build up some new products or is there something else going on?

They’re not different, see last post on “nerding on brakes”

No clue how to respond to this message in there tagging it

It's not quite an E4 I think it might be 14mm pistons, but don't quote me. But NicoZesty is right, they do a caliper that's compatible with GRX or other mineral oil levers, there was a bike of the day posted a while back that was a custom Cnc'd frame, and that had a hopemano brake set on it.

That teaser video is a a ripoff of Shimano’s own teaser campaign for the xtr m950 launch back in ‘97.

Shimano/Hope (mineral oil) brakes are fairly common in the gravel world, so Hope definitely have experience w/ mineral oil

why has shimano made their XTR and XT caliper so different?
i was really looking forward to XT's with a similar design to the XTR

interesting to see theyve moved to a LV oil to cure their other issues.

XTR is going to replace Saint brakes in my opinion and they really wanted to position it as more different product probably with actual extra features which is problem of the current line up where its just a badge, name and maybe some slight updates but nothing setting them truly apart besides the price.

XTR is one piece, lighter and presumably stiffer. XT is bolted together.

Hey guys, I just came across this. Not a new product but an ingenious way to get handlebars perfectly aligned.

yes. i deleted because they asked.

edit - further clarification - it's embargoed material that some brand, shop or media "hero" is putting on the internet. if shimano doesn't their images on vital and asks for it to be removed, i'll oblige. i would do this for any brand in the same situation. i don't control other websites the material may land on.

if it was spotted out in the wild or posted on a site in error to be freely seen, well that's an entirely different situation.

Posts all over FB/reddit/pinkbike.

with even more photos of the brakes/drivetrains/hubs.

I will never believe in this whole removing posts because a brand cant keep their own sh1t a secret - especially in this case when Shimano Rep's have been telling everyone.

i added to my post above with more clarification, FYI.

IMO it doesn't come down to shimano (or any brand launching a product) being the problem in this case. they have a launch coming up (they said, june 5). they have to get their product and info in the right places before the launch. it's a kook or two at these places (OE, shops, brands, media, who knows) who are posting things they don't have a right to post.

if shimano asks vital to remove stuff but not other outlets, it must mean our viewers are actually important 🤣

Fair enough!

At least we wont need to wait long for it to be officially released now!

Can we at least get a [post deleted for embargo reasons] or something, as a placeholder? It would make the forum threads a lot less confusing.

Your backend is in php right? I'd do it for free!

Totally support this - it sucks when people who have been given privileged information choose to leak it just so they can feel cool - We all complain when dealers aren't properly informed on launch day, but info getting out in advance can be really damaging in certain situations. So when it gets leaked it just makes it harder the next time, around since the brand has to tighten up what that put out. And what do people gain by knowing about a thing a few days early? nothing......

This exact issue was addressed 3 months ago when the Fox Podium got leaked here and Sspomer deleted the post and explained why.

Vital playing by the rules means they get access to product early, so we get great reviews and also fosters good will in these forums where a lot of industry people come and contribute.

Why jeopardize the best MTB tech forum there is so we can see shots of a product 5 days early?

Also note the leaks from the factory via weight weenies didn't get deleted?
